I'm playing a gestalt game inwhich I am a level 4 Aasimar fighter/cleric(LE) and my companions are a level 4 Teifling rogue/swashbuckler (NE) and a level 3 kobold straight ranger (Sidekick). I should warn you: THIS IS A BIT OF A RANT.
 I really want to start converting people and building up my new little religious philosophy and my DM won't let me do it. I have had contact with dozens of NPCs and every time its "No, they won't convert". I use everything at my disposal, I make every diplomacy check, every bluff check, and every intimidate check and nothing:banghead: . It is really starting to **** me off.:headexplo
To top it all off, he apparantly has his world straddling two COMPLETLY incompatible series of books. One is high magic with a dash of intrigue (Wizards First Rule series). The other is a sado/masochistic world of political intrigue (Kushiels Dart). Neither one fits what I want to play, and frankley, I think I just want to quit.:raincloud :nonono: Not only is his world constantly inconsistant (All things magical are outlawed, but every five year old can fart a 6th level spel!!!) but he finds it necessary to railroad us into his gameplan everytime I try to do something fun, like I dont know, be evil and convert an orphan through torture maybe.
I just hate to do it to him though.

Never play a game based on anime or a book, and you should have told him the character intentions before you started to play, and now that you know his rules you can quit and/or DM your own game. It is better to not game than to game badly.

That is all the advice I have for this situation.

I agree, read up on the rules and create your own setting and DM it.

I especially agree against basing a game on anime, love to watch the stuff but the concepts and characters convert very poorly to a system with consistent rules (practically everyone in an anime is an "exception to the rule" and with a world of exceptions it is had to have a story progress without a script)

Im our regular DM and have been for years, and as to telling him my intent: Started out with it clearly statted and explained. The thing is he is just beginning to grasp DMing in general.

Umm... neither the 'sword of truth' nor 'kurshiel's dart' are anime. They're novels.

(BTW... sword of truth/wizard's first rule are a set of books which is the standard low magic for the majority of the world (with magic being illegal in most of the world) and a few bloodlines of magic abilities for the pre-catacyclism era which was high magic.)

Yeah - neither of those books lend themselves well to d20 design. Completely different magic systems for one.

Plus they are both settings where the PC should be the 'special' ones. Something that is hard to do with evil PCs.

Talk your DM, see if he's willing to run something more to your groups taste - if not remind me that might makes right in most of both of those world and ask if he would be preventing the 'dreamwalker' from converting the Old Empire. (if he's actually read the books he's basing the setting on, he should get a little red in the face.)

He doesn't want you to hog the spotlight, that's what it is. And building an army or whatever it is you plan on doing is sort of hogging the spotlight from the other player(s?).

Kind of weird, if you clearly stated his intent. Maybe he just didn't want to say no?...

Now the whole campaign setting thing sounds like it is completely the DM's fault...

Ok lets just straited some details out shall we.
And I guess this is a bit of rant too sorry don't take it personally

First off the Kobold is a follower/side kick that he mainly controls. there are a grand total of two players.

Second My world is not based on books I just took some parts of them that I liked
book 1 A game of thrones. The part I took Low magic and the name of 2 npcs. (Yes thats right Low magic and 2 names)

book 2 Wizards first rule. Hmm lets see Magic not being very common.....yeah thats it and it really is just like the first book remember low magic.

book3 Kushiels Dart. I took the idea of the marquee. (you serve until you debt is paid, to show it has been paid off you receive a large tattoo on your back) also I took the name of a npc named Guy.

I would also Like to point out that all three of these books are low magic. At no point did I mislead any of my players into thinking that my world would be other wise.

Third Yes magic is uncommon note the char class he is playing an Aasimar fighter/cleric he also is wielding a very nice powerful and MAGIC SWORD yes thats right folks Magic exist its just A: Illegal and B: Rare.

Forth and I think this is the statement Which really bothers me Not only is his world constantly inconsistant (All things magical are outlawed, but every five year old can fart a 6th level spel!!!) Besides his Master/boss/Mentor whatever you want to call him I can not recall and npc being able to cast spells. There might of been one and if there was he was not Gestalt and only lv 1.

Fifth Converts aka Followers hmm the Kobold he got at lv 2 doesn't count I guess. Lets see there is this feat called Leadership and you get a cohort and Followers. I am sorry no but just walking into town and talking about you new way is not going to get the masses to follow you. When was the last time a Guy on the street was Preaching about the end of the earth or some Knocked on you door asking if you have met their god, and you said "Ok I've just met you but I will disregard everything I know and start thinking your way"

I am not against him getting followers and what not but its not going to happen to a lv 4 char I am sorry

Sixth If I didn't want you to feel special then why are you playing the cleric you asked for In my low magic world. you wanted to play Darth Vader char and I said fine, but the part of the movie that he says " I find you lack of faith disturbing" I promise you he was Much higher then 4th lv

Seventh besides Creature placement how is my world constantly inconsistent?

well what do you all think should a 4th lv char be able to Start gaining loyal followers on a Diplomacy check, bluff check, and intimidate check

IMO; a few succesful diplomacy checks, maybe a few donations to the right people etc. will make them start to think about it. A couple of more checks will probably make them acknowledge a god, and some more might even change their faiths.

Intimidate will never lead to real belief, as it will be belief out of fear for reprisal from the clergy (unless the god itself clearly puts its wrath down, but that will still be belief from fear).

At 4th level, you'll only probably convert those who are fairly weak in their belief. Most people will simply take you for a fanatic priest and listen to you, and then forget it...

easiest way to start a religeon? leadership feat, then charm person every tom dick and harry you meet. send them back to your town in the making, and have them all brainwashed. or the psionic version, with that prc.

Yes LordSnave has the right of it. He is my DM in this. I would like to publicly apologize to him, but I needed to vent a little frustration.
