| MonkeyKing10-21-04, 02:09 AM | Our gaming group is currently undergoing an extremely troubling period in which one of the founder members has decided to up and leave. No doubt many of you are familiar with 'The Man From Uncle' as he likes to call himself on the boards. Well, unfortunately he's decided to run off to China and marry a girl he met a couple of years ago. Now, I would like to emphasise that I don't begrudge him this in the slightest and indeed many of us will be making the trip over for the joyous union to offer much love and support (and possibly a few tips on the matter of consumation!). The problem stems from his attitude towards future gaming upon his triumphant return to Blighty. He has already assured us that there is no way his wife to be will allow him to continue gaming with us and has decided to hang up his players handbook for the foreseable future. 'Surely you jest!' I hear you all cry, 'Man From Uncle - The adamant dnd enthusiast we've all come to know and mostly dislike, it can't be?!' Well unfortunately, it is. He shows no remorse at his decision to leave the group, even knowing full well how difficult it would be to find a replacement with his unique blend of ambtious character choice and potentially fatal bad luck. I for one feel let down that he should flip-flop so easily on all that he has previously strived to uphold in others. I suppose what I am asking is: Has anyone here ever been in a similar situation - How did the group cope at losing such a key member? Can anyone offer any advice as to how we might go about persuading Uncle to return without compromising his imminent marital status? Does anyone know where I left my keys? Monkey |
| The_Dark_One10-21-04, 02:39 AM | that there is no way his wife to be will allow him to continue gaming with us I wouldn't need permission from my wife to game. I let no person control my life like that. This, and my receding hairline, is the reason that I'm still single. As to coping with his loss, have any of you thought of using a sock-puppet to continue to play his characters as if he were still there? Nothing wrong with good old fashioned denial. |
| MonkeyKing10-21-04, 03:05 AM | have any of you thought of using a sock-puppet to continue to play his characters as if he were still there? We did once try and replace him using a sheepskin anorak and a pint of beer, but after having a few too many the anorak got a bit rowdy, started bleeting angrily and we had to end the session! |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 03:30 AM | Hey whats all this about? Dam you monkey, airing our dirty laundry in public! I may have trouble getting back for our weekly session, even after i return, but as you well know thats a practical problem, not a personal one! No woman runs my life! But while we are on the matter women interfering with a mans gaming life, perhaps i can remind you of Gencon UK 2001. I seem to recall a very bashful chimp rushing off half way through to go and be some womans +1 at a wedding. You were even on a break! Thats right people, the Monkeyking left the biggest European gaming convention 2 days early to be with a woman he was not even shagging at the time. Now thats disgraceful. I can go on and discuss the 'Baby sitting' days too if you like. |
| MonkeyKing10-21-04, 03:36 AM | I can go on and discuss the 'Baby sitting' days too if you like. Please, if you have nothing constructive to say, let other people who may be able to offer us some advice in our time of need put their two penneth worth in. I notice you still show no remorse for your quite baffling behaviour. Shame on you, practical problem indeed - That's not a very nice way to talk about your wife to be! to be with a woman he was not even shagging at the time. I must protest, there was much '3 minute monkey' loving to be had that weekend! Even so, this was a rather crude comment and I'm sure we'd all be grateful if you refrained from such 'witticisms' in future. |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 03:49 AM | Fine fine, let them give advice. I know how difficult it will be for you all once i'm gone. The beer will just pile up with no one there to drink it. There will be women crying in the streets. Philosophers pondering the effect of my departure on reality as they know it. It will be a dark day indeed. Please, i implore all out there to do what they can for this tortured group in their time of need. By the way, does anyone know any gaming groups in China? |
| The_Dark_One10-21-04, 03:53 AM | By the way, does anyone know any gaming groups in China? China is a big place with upwards of twenty people in it. This thread has depressed me. I realized that I could leave my current gaming group and the only effect would be widespread rejoicing... :weep: |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 07:08 AM | I feel sorry for you Dark One i really do. My group practically worship me like a god. The subtle barbs in my esteemed colleges words are just said in frustration. But don't worry Monkey, i take no offence.......our friendship goes deeper than that old friend. His whimsical approach to this subject is touching, but i know his true pain and can hear the desperation for answers in his words. Mayhaps one of you in the audience of this can give him solace and help him deal with the loss. |
| gristler271610-21-04, 08:01 AM | do you never think that perhaps you take this game too seriously?! The only thing we are left to ponder is why you are allowing yourself to be separated from the most important thing in your world and your only form of social interaction for the sake of an internet bride? :looloo: come on man, i know you've paid your money but i'm pretty sure you can still get a refund! |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 08:09 AM | So 2716 is piping up now is he? I see. As for a refund, no, its non-returnable. I am sorry dude, i am going, you have to face it and be strong. |
| starfire31110-21-04, 11:06 AM | Monkey... this is an easy one, as far as I can tell about the MFU is that you will probably be better off without him... I mean really more beer for everyone else is always a good thing. No seriously, why the heck can't he still game if he is in your neck of the woods, being married ain't no excuse to stop gaming people, get a grip. I have been married all of 2 months now and it ahsn't hurt my gaming heck we even went to Gen Con for the honeymoon sort of... we still have a cruise coming up, but heck why in the world would anyone stop gaming, just because they got married. If your wife can't handle you gaming then she is marrying the wrong guy... well ofcourse if you are the kind of guy that enjoys gaming, if you aren't then it is ok to marry a women that doesn't like gaming. GL Monkey and the MFU... if I am ever in the UK and looking for a gaming group, I might look you up, ... wonders how many Monkeys are in the phonebook in the UK? You guys seem like hella fun to game with. |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 11:36 AM | Starfire311 - 'No seriously, why the heck can't he still game if he is in your neck of the woods' Good point. You want to answer that one tree-swinger? Or do you fear that the obvious flaw in your complaint might come to light? Starfire, it has nothing to do with my other half forbiding me to play. The problem is that i will be living with her and not them. We all currently live within about a 20 min drive of each other. After i get back next year i am moving, to live in or around where she's studying. Now the UK ain't huge, but the closest we will be will be 50 miles away, and it could be anywhere up to about 400 miles. The guys are pseudo-annoyed that i can't force her to study at one of the local (and and pretty crappy) unis. They think that by me accepting that she can study at Cambridge/Warwick/Oxford/Bristol instead of Sh*tsVille Polytechnic that i am letting her walk all over me. There is also the jealousy that i choose to live with her and not with them. The Chairman (Monkey) has even threatened to suspend my membership and force me to reapply every time I get the chance to come down for a weekend and play. (Stupid Monkey. Everyone else in the group got a cool job and title, i was given 'Supervisor of Alcoholic beverage consumption'). NB: This is the first thread i've ever posted on where there's no-one i'd really rather not game with. |
| Naeron10-21-04, 11:52 AM | <snip> Starfire, it has nothing to do with my other half forbiding me to play. The problem is that i will be living with her and not them. There is also the jealousy that i choose to live with her and not with them <snip>. People have to accept that this happens, people disperse as the go to University and then when they get jobs and even when they get married, heck I was sent to Istanbul for 2 years which pretty much ended my attendance to the London gaming sessions. At the moment I live in Gloucester and the sessions happen in Kent (about 200 miles away) - so until we get webcam sessions running my attendance rate is low. It looks like MFU is the first to spread his wings but he won't be the last, the group just needs to accept that is is going to happen as the years go by. It doesn't need to split the group up. One question I have is whether MonkeyKing is also a "Hunky Monkey"? |
| jnrhayz10-21-04, 12:08 PM | My suggestion is to get a tape recorder, tape a few of his witty comments, find a blow up doll, steal some of his clothes, and create a replica. Just sit him at the table and at the dramatically appropriate times have the DM press play. If this doesn't work, you could tie him up and keep him in a basement for a month or two until his bride to be thinks he has deserted her. Then he will be forced to stay. Or you could just go down to the local gaming store and find someone and say, "Hey, you wanna play some D&D?" When someone says yes, then make sure they will stick around for awhile, then put a sign on your door saying, "No Men from Uncle who desert their gaming groups for women from China allowed" Just a few suggestions. ;) |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 12:37 PM | If only it were so simple. I think that our groups aggregate personality could be described as 'very picky'. The screening process for someone we don't know (and even getting that far would be on the edge of reality) would be....... frankly unfathomable. We are arrogant, selfish, in a perminant state of banter, insulting, rude, quick witted, cliquey, narrow-minded, sacastic, arguementative, enthusiastic, childish, gross, cult-like in our exclusion of non-gamers, viscious, wicked and they really are our best qualities. |
| jnrhayz10-21-04, 12:43 PM | We are arrogant, selfish, in a perminant state of banter, insulting, rude, quick witted, cliquey, narrow-minded, sacastic, arguementative, enthusiastic, childish, gross, cult-like in our exclusion of non-gamers, viscious, wicked and they really are our best qualities. Isn't that all TRUE gamers? |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 02:08 PM | Maybe, but we see it as a flaw in anyone else. |
| Shard of Suzail10-21-04, 02:09 PM | Women denying men the chance to roleplay isnt a good thing. If men started controlling a woman's life, then they would be berated, turned on and shamed by everyone. We`d get the "i`m not your property thing" and "equal partnership this and that". Anway, for either partner, be they men or women, to effectively cut out a major hobby or lifestyle choice from the life of their partner is all wrong. Fair enough if it hurts them, like excess drinking, drugs, gambling etc, but watching football, roleplaying, or even just nights out with the lads/girls only are good things. A proper relationship allows individual space for both partners, they dont have to be attached at the hip. Doesnt mean they both have to roleplay, they just have to show tolerance and understanding. Which, at the end of the day, is what its all about. |
| Masrai10-21-04, 02:14 PM | At least some good can come of MFU's shameful abandonment of his childhood gaming chums. You can E-Bay all his rule books, Dice, Miniatures etc. and sell them as curiosities to the more morbid players among us by saying he was using them on his hospital death bed: "His last worldly pain filled breath released with his final D20 fumble roll, his feeble body slumping prone in union with his dex-check failing PC, eyes rolling back, the plucky lad shuffles off the mortal coil as the Wights shuffle toward his vulnerable face down character, eager to take him the same way as his master". OK, this may seem a little sick but let's be fair, if he's abandoning the beautiful game for the iron thumb of a virtual wife ordered from the chinese version of Amazon, his soul's already long dead. But seriously, let the young lad go where his heart takes him, if only to act as a stout reminder to our younger gaming generation of the dangers of Internet relationships with ladies who like paper walls and Hair Bobs with chopsticks in them. They'll make slaves of us all in the end, mark my words. |
| Board_Rider10-21-04, 02:20 PM | I've been saying it for years..."It is so hard to fly like an eagle when your surrounded by buzzards" Does it apply here? I don't know but I have been dying to use it on these boards. Also remember "A bird in the bush is worth two Datsuns in the garage." I think what I am trying to say is that you can lead a horse to water but a dog is still a mans best friend. Oh how I love these witty threads between gamers!!! |
| green_yawgmoth10-21-04, 02:47 PM | Wow, this thread makes me feel bad to be associated with gamers. Instead of TMFU coming in here and just saying "she isn't forcing me to not game, we're just moving too far away" or something, he gets defensive and makes ad hominem attacks. :nonono: Of course, if she really is saying "no more gaming for you!" I'd just have to say grow a pair and stand up for yourself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| crazysamaritan10-21-04, 03:27 PM | Oh how I love these witty threads between gamers!!! Now if we only had half a wit between us..... Go to a random pub, start drinking and free-form gaming (you can do anything you normally would, and you simply declare if you hit or not, no need to roll) when someone is stupid enough to know what you are doing, make him join. Doesn't work? Go to another random pub. Worst case senario? You just spent several nights drinking with your friends and got kicked out of every pub in a 40 KM radius. |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 04:12 PM | Ah, Masrai, its nice of you to join us. I would criticise you for that spear-chucker girlfriend, but the truth is shes lower maintinance that the rest of our spouses. I may have my bad luck on the table, but i have no such fate in reality. So keep your well moisturised hands off my gaming stuff and kindly return to fixing your hair! By the way green_yawgmoth.....are you serious or have you really misunderstood things that much? Shard......you've clearly not kept up either. Crazymaritan.....f*cking awsome idea. Won't go down so well in the east, but on my return there may be a few pubs and bars being forced to ban a certain group of people for 'Talking wierd' and scaring off fellow patrons with threats of magic missiles. |
| Phrennzy10-21-04, 04:29 PM | Bah - it's simple, really. Get TMFU a video cam for his computer. Come game night, plop a monitor down in his spot. He can tele-game. Now you get all of his wit, friendship and radiant joy with that weird smell or having to brush past him in the hall. And you can switch the monitor off when it's time for him to leave, instead of trying subtly usher him away from the fridge and out the door. Problem solved. |
| crazysamaritan10-21-04, 04:32 PM | also keeps him from taking munchies away, if you guys have goood computers/connections, that sounds like the way to go. |
| Phrennzy10-21-04, 04:40 PM | Yah, this way he buys his own beer, instead of mooching. Of course, then he can always buy the REALLY good beer, and taunt you all because you can't have any. |
| The Man from Uncle10-21-04, 04:55 PM | Hmmm....thanks people (*checks armpits*). I'll have you know that beer is exclusively bought by me! (with the exceptions of birthdays and christmas when they each individually buy me beer). I'd like the web cam thing, trouble my missus might not be happy with me DnDing at 2-6am every week. No i think that this weekend may well be my last for agood period of time. (though guys, you never know my luck, if my visa thing gets screwed i'll be back before Feb.) |
| jnrhayz10-21-04, 05:01 PM | Well, Take a month break for.. *ahem ... married reasons and then put the computer in a different room. She will be sleeping anyway so it shouldn't be a big deal. Of course that is completely dependent on whether you can deal with the loss of sleep. good luck. |
| MonkeyKing10-21-04, 10:56 PM | There's a lot of love in the room! Now to address many an issue: No seriously, why the heck can't he still game if he is in your neck of the woods Much to his discredit, he even wont be in our neck of the woods. He's chosen to play lamb to his little bo peep and I suspect he's one sheep she definitely won't be letting out of her sight! They think that by me accepting that she can study at Cambridge/Warwick/Oxford/Bristol instead of Sh*tsVille Polytechnic that i am letting her walk all over me Come now Uncle, Hatfield University isn't so bad is it? Surely you haven't forgotten that you yourself achieved a lower second class honours degree there just 2 short years back? One question I have is whether MonkeyKing is also a "Hunky Monkey"? Hmmmm (*ponders whether Naeron is in fact a man!*)... You've obviously heard of my '3 sweet minutes' reputation! (*fumbles the soap... :mymy: *) then put a sign on your door saying, "No Men from Uncle who desert their gaming groups for women from China allowed" I was sure we already had this policy, he's not the first to slip through the net though! I'm not sure this would provide an adequate solution. I fear that should we appear on the opposite end of some form of webcam link, MFU would fall in love with us, propose marriage and spend the next session on cam, naked and trying to get us to look at his wang! We definitely wont miss his musty aroma though... I still feel bitter and twisted at MFU's continued and quite frankly bewildering lack of humility in such a situation, but at last have found solace among a group of likeminded individuals whom I would be honoured to now call friends. :weep: |
| MonkeyKing10-21-04, 11:09 PM | The only thing we are left to ponder is why you are allowing yourself to be separated from the most important thing in your world and your only form of social interaction for the sake of an internet bride? Very true Gristler. What about all those love letters you wrote to Gary Gygax Uncle? Do they mean nothing to you? All your schoolgirl fantasies of a Dungeons and Dragons themed wedding, are you really going to turn your back on it all? if he's abandoning the beautiful game for the iron thumb of a virtual wife ordered from the chinese version of Amazon, his soul's already long dead. According to popular Christian mythology, most of us here sold our souls to the devil the first time we rolled a D20 and were heard to cry 'AC 19!' You make a fine point however, I don't know how he sleeps at night! (and i certainly wouldn't suspect it would be in the same bed with his wife to be AND her cousin  ) |
| The Man from Uncle10-22-04, 04:24 AM | Nothing wrong with Hertfordshires philosophey department. And it was an upper second class i thank you very much! The web cam can't be done in a different rooms because my flat in china is basically just one big room with a kitchen and bathroom poking out the side. Anyway monkey, don't worry. You've lasted without playing DnD with me for 6 months already. You just keep your chin up and i'll be back down some weekend next summer or something. |
| MonkeyKing10-22-04, 04:41 AM | Nothing wrong with Hertfordshires philosophey department Apart from their slack attitude toward spelling and grammar, obviously! |
| The_Dark_One10-22-04, 05:14 AM | 'Supervisor of Alcoholic beverage consumption' This is the coolest title a man can earn. Oh, The Man from Uncle should probably be wary of being given drinks by the rest of the group for a little while. Otherwise, he might wake up in an old well, chained to the floor, and hear a certain someone saying "It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again". |
| gristler271610-22-04, 05:16 AM | Apart from their slack attitude toward spelling and grammar, obviously! Take that Beaze!!!! But seriously, you really should be able to spell philosophy by now. |
| Mordmorgan the Mad10-22-04, 05:54 AM | do you never think that perhaps you take this game too seriously?! I can see this one is new :D |
| Korgan2610-22-04, 06:25 AM | The Dark One:I wouldn't need permission from my wife to game. I let no person control my life like that. This, and my receding hairline, is the reason that I'm still single. Now see this is just crazy talk. I'm married, free to do what I want without asking (Although it is polite and she never says no, at least not in 4 years) My hair line was classified as receding 5 years ago (I'm 27, and now I have grey also) and I game. All this talk about wives stopping gaming or not letting you do something has as much to do with the man than anything else. Z |
| The Man from Uncle10-22-04, 09:07 AM | Nice of you to chip in there kitten. No sense in letting an opportunity to put boot in go to waste. Mordmorgan the Mad - 'I can see this one is new' Gristler is the newest member of the group.....but i think hes into his second year now and both Monkey i used to game with him in back in the old days. The Dark One - 'This is the coolest title a man can earn.' Well, I don't like to blow my own trumpet......but, yes, i guess i did earn it. |
| Sir Knight10-22-04, 11:13 AM | I think we are all dumber for reading this... :D |
| devinmdp10-22-04, 08:58 PM | I have experienced your problem. We call it "getting wife-ed in the back"! There is nothing you can do about it. Personally, I told my wife, when we first met, that I game, I have for 30 years, and I probably will until I die. That I'd be happy to temper my gaming schedule for her and even moreso when we have children, but I would not abandon it altogther, and if that was not acceptable to her, well then there's the door right over there. Fortunately for me she accepted my weird hobby. But, barring that, I have to say that if the choice is legitimately between a woman this guy loves and gaming, I advise him to take the woman. Gaming is fun, and yes, sometimes as a husband and father I look back fondly on those times when I could game 7 days a week and look jealously upon my gaming friends today who run in 4 campaigns a week while I run in 1 every two weeks. But then I quickly remember what it was like when I was gaming 24/7 back then and all I could think about was finding companionship. That quickly has me looking on my friends not with jealousy but....well....a bit of pity. Devin |
| Masrai10-23-04, 03:27 AM | Your loss will be felt throughout the gaming community MFU - I for one salute your many years service to lying prone on cold Dungeon floors. You shall be missed - however much that tangy smell of yours made my eyes water. Although a few weeks in china with your wife's Wishy Washy mother should soon see you triumphantly smelling of roses and rice fields. Good luck fella (sob). Maybe you could do a chinese version of Lost in Translation (abeit a more low budget, Blair Witch-esque version with your hand held recorder), and as penance for your abandonment we could all live off the precedings. For sheer comedy factor I'd pick you over Bill Murray any day. You big(ish) Lug. |
| MonkeyKing10-25-04, 03:57 AM | Nice of you to chip in there kitten. No sense in letting an opportunity to put boot in go to waste. Was this one of those mysterious invisible posts I've been trying to read about?! Much like a sneak attack but far less subtle. (I'm sure it was very amusing though, wherever it went... ) |
| a18ffe10-25-04, 12:38 PM | Quickly! MonkeyKing. Confess you love to him before it's too late. :) jk Seriously. Once this happens , we call them the "lost causes". Most will say they will continue gaming, but after a while they just quit. Either his wife doesn't like us, or he's having a kid, ect... The only exception, one of my friends found a gamer chick and married her. May not be the best looking, but at least he still games. |
| starfire31110-25-04, 12:57 PM | Quickly! MonkeyKing. Confess you love to him before it's too late. :) jk Seriously. Once this happens , we call them the "lost causes". The only exception, one of my friends found a gamer chick and married her. May not be the best looking, but at least he still games. If things are really like this...it is so sad. I game 3 times every 2 weeks.... everyone at my table is married, except 3 people and one of them is engaged now. We have a total of 11 different people in the 3 different games I play in 4 of us play in all 3 games. |
| a18ffe10-25-04, 01:39 PM | Well, I didn't include people who were already married that were gaming with us. They have good staying power, and they usually have the cleaner basements to game in. Only the people who were single then got married. Just as what's happening to MoU. |
| Kittencaboodle10-25-04, 03:15 PM | Much like a sneak attack but far less subtle. (I'm sure it was very amusing though, wherever it went... ) Take 1d6 points of sarcasm. :D |
| crazysamaritan10-25-04, 03:53 PM | May not be the best looking, but at least he still games. If I was that guy, I'd be insulted. Come on, where do you get off insulting the guy's appearance? ;) |
| starfire31110-25-04, 04:27 PM | Well, I didn't include people who were already married that were gaming with us. They have good staying power, and they usually have the cleaner basements to game in. Only the people who were single then got married. Just as what's happening to MoU. The funning thing is that we were all single when we started gaming together. Now we are all married and we still gaem together. |
| MonkeyKing10-25-04, 11:33 PM | Quickly! MonkeyKing. Confess your love to him before it's too late. I love you Uncle. (Not in a namby pamby homosexual way though, in a tough manly kinda way! Excuse me... I've got something in my eye :weep: ) p.s. I couldn't help but correct your grammar a18ffe, sorry! Uncle feels your pain. Take 1d6 points of sarcasm. That's like firing a negative energy ray at the undead! The funny thing is that we were all single when we started gaming together. Now we are all married and we still game together. So there is hope for the man who likes to game but also wants a woman (and by woman I mean regular sex! In which case why get married? Where am I?), other than resigning himself to marrying some ugly chick as a18ffe so rightly points out. Game on! |
| The Man from Uncle10-26-04, 06:26 AM | What the hells been going on in this thread? I see Kitten's post got nerfed for being offensive. Hahahahaha, thats fantastic. What will they do next? Anyhow, thanks for the kind words from a few of you. I make no promises that i can be back for even sporadic gaming, but i will do my best to make some appearances and perhaps you guys will keep a seat open (and a beer chilled) just in case i show up. |
| Kittencaboodle10-26-04, 10:26 AM | I see Kitten's post got nerfed for being offensive. Hahahahaha, thats fantastic. What will they do next? :weep: I don't think it's fantastic. Now people will think I'm this big mean thing instead of a sweet little kitten... :schemes: Pay no attention to the horns, they simply hold the halo straight. |
| The Man from Uncle10-26-04, 10:48 AM | Sorry Kitten, i have no idea what that was about. Brings a tear to my eye though that someone was so sensitive as to read your post as hurting my feelings. Hahaha. I love the indiscriminate ignorance of the adim. Don't feel like you are being singled out though, i get those 'friendly reminders' all the time to my various accounts. And i am sure i deserve it no more than anyone else here. ;). |
| Naeron10-26-04, 12:17 PM | Hmmmm (*ponders whether Naeron is in fact a man!*)... You've obviously heard of my '3 sweet minutes' reputation! (*fumbles the soap... :mymy: *) Male, its just that the whole setup is very similar to some people I do vaguely know from the PBEM games community. |
| crazysamaritan10-26-04, 01:05 PM | Don't feel like you are being singled out though, i get those 'friendly reminders' all the time to my various accounts. And i am sure i deserve it no more than anyone else here. ;). I probably wouldn't go so far as that.... ;) Stay Good, Uncle! Stay Good! *poing* *poing* |
| The Man from Uncle10-26-04, 02:36 PM | I will try........but i'm not much for p*ssy footing around. When i do choose to be serious i'd rather that stupid people just shut up and f*ck off. When i'm not in a serious mood though, anyone is fair game. |
| Masrai10-28-04, 12:12 PM | Look at that Man from Uncle go - he's a melting pot of anger and mirth, all rolled into one! How are people meant to know when your being serious or lighthearted in a thread? I fear many fresh faced thread joiners have mistook a serious Uncle thread for a lighthearted one and faced the full force of your red fingered anger filled jibes. Why not just roll your old dice at random intervals throughout the day once your married in plain view of the wife? Make sure you look ready to cry every time that sweet dice rolls a 20, and take the time to look out the window longingly in the direction of where we used to play, saying every time it comes up higher than 16 "I would of hit with that" and she'll break quicker than a polystyrene bridge. Or she'll think your mad and divorce you quick snap. In both cases you'll be left with a searing void in your life. Have a good day now! |
| Prachett10-28-04, 03:02 PM | Don't they kill people in China for playing D&D? Or, I'm sorry.. "re-educate them?" When you get back, just sneak out to play D&D and tell your wife you're having an affair. That's what I do. As far as my wife is concerned, that's more socially acceptable then being a "gamer." |
| MonkeyKing10-28-04, 10:47 PM | Uncle's a lost cause, he finished, washed up, redundant and helpless in the arms of his bride to be. I'm told there was a tearful farewell at Uncle's last ever gaming session Sunday past, I wasn't there however. Due to the circumstance I chose to boycott the whole sordid affair (it had nothing to do with the fact that I was over the other side of the world!). So there you have it. I have chosen to openly thumb my nose to Uncle's desertion and have fully revoked his membership to the NWTRG. I'll show him who the bigger man is. but i'm not much for p*ssy footing around. When i do choose to be serious i'd rather that stupid people just shut up and f*ck off. Rants like this might scare little girls and dim-wits but they don't fool me. It's actually reminiscent of that time we found you in the park, twirling your cane wildly and shouting obscenities at a squirrel you claimed had been talking rubbish about Hume! Glory days... Mark my words Uncle, you'll be back! Oh yes I know that you will...bwah ha ha ha haaaaa :smirk: |
| whisper10-29-04, 06:21 AM | I suggest that Man from Uncle come down to visit once every month for the weekend to play all weekend. That is what I would do. In fact I have friendds that did that when they moved. Of course, I'm addicting to playing. No way would I let my husband tell me that I can't game just because we got married. Of course I was wargaming and playing chess when I was 4. Maybe Man from Uncle just isn't serious about his gaming? |
| MonkeyKing10-29-04, 06:44 AM | Maybe Man from Uncle just isn't serious about his gaming? You know Whisper, I think you're right. I didn't really consider this option previously but there's just no denying the fact that Uncle is becoming less and less of the dedicated gamer he was several years ago. In fact, now you mention it, I'm sure the warning signs were there. His continued alcohol abuse during sessions oftern rendering him semi-unconcious less than halfway through, his carefree attitude towards his characters well being often bordering on self-mutilation and those cries of anguish as were bundled him into the car each Sunday evening. It's strange how these things work out in the end! |
| whisper10-29-04, 07:24 AM | Yes, I've seen it happen to the best people. On second they're playing all of the time and the next they're off with their girlfriend. How dare they? What has a girlfriend got that we don't? Nothing but sex, boy, the nerve. |
