| Majick10-28-06, 07:32 AM | Well, could you? 6,8,10,12,14,16 and if so, what would you play? |
| Kargush10-28-06, 07:40 AM | I'd play a fighter with the stats lined like this: 16-12-14-10-8-6... And hope he died sooner rather than later... |
| JiobiValen10-28-06, 07:40 AM | Sure you could, its not optimal but the 16 makes it good for any arcane caster. could also play as a fighter or barbarian.. Well see the thing is you could really play any class with the stats, thats the great thing about 3-3.5ed, there aren't stat requirements to enter a class. |
| The White Sorcerer10-28-06, 07:59 AM | I'd play: Half-orc barbarian Str 18, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 4, Wis 10, Cha 6 And hope he never died. |
| Caliborn10-28-06, 08:08 AM | Yeah I could. I'd play an Human Incarnate(Law) with Str-14 Con-16 Dex-8 Int-12 Wis-6 Cha-10. |
| molten_dragon10-28-06, 08:24 AM | I too would probably play a half orc fighter or barbarian. For some reason really dumb characters are incredibly fun to role-play. |
| kelvinaw27310-28-06, 08:26 AM | Hm. You could make any SAD character class work with that stat-set. It's not ideal, but you could do it. Off the cuff, I'd make a Kalashtar Ardent: Str 6, Con 8, Dex 12, Int 14, Wis 16, Chr 10. Possibly loop into Psion at higher levels. |
| runestar10-28-06, 09:38 AM | Makes for a decent wiz. Str8, dex12, con14, wis10, int16, cha6.:) |
| bhu10-28-06, 10:33 AM | Bullywug Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker/Retard Str 14 Dex 12 Con 22 Int 4 Wis 6 Cha 2 |
| SilverFoxKnows10-28-06, 11:56 AM | Goblin Rogue: Str 6, Dex 18, Con 10, Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 4. Let's put a face to the numbers. Moh-Uuk was the runt of the litter and was picked on because of it. He developed a stammer in his speech and won't look anyone in the eye. But he learned to be quick on his feet and remain reasonably aware of his surroundings. He also developed an impressive set of skills, which kept him alive. The warriors were allowed to pummel him but not kill him because he had the smarts to repair their crossbows and make the traps that helped to keep their warren safe. If forced to fight he will run and hide "Cowardly rat!" and then open fire with a crossbow from a safe position "Sneaky ba$1@rd". From time to time he overhears important things but will never be a prime info gatherer. I'd play him. |
| starfire31110-28-06, 12:46 PM | Well, could you? 6,8,10,12,14,16 and if so, what would you play? Nothing wrong with these stats... Paly Str 14 Dex 6 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 16 Um ok not the best character but definatly still playable |
| Suzaku45510-28-06, 01:33 PM | Nothing wrong with these stats... Paly Str 14 Dex 6 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 16 Um ok not the best character but definatly still playable But you'll be sucidal |
| Celestine_AutumnStar10-28-06, 01:42 PM | Dwarven Druid Str 12 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 6 Wis 16 Cha 6 |
| Dragonsblood10-28-06, 01:43 PM | Nothing wrong with these stats... Paly Str 14 Dex 6 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 12 Cha 16 Um ok not the best character but definatly still playable Yea, playable until you die in your first fight. Dex 6 and con 10? yeesh |
| Tempest Stormwind10-28-06, 01:47 PM | Damn straight, that's playable. Hell, it's slightly *better* than the current setup I've got going on a wizard which will see play soon. Using those numbers, it'd be: Gnome illusionist (banning evocation/necromancy): Str 4, Dex 12, Con 16, Int 16, Wis 8, Cha 10. (Yes, his specializations were chosen to show off. It's completely doable if you're worth the Intelligence score.) Other than that, Celestine's got the idea. Druids need two stats, Wisdom and Constitution, and you have a 16 and a 14. That's plenty strong enough to OWN the game as a druid. |

| Reversefigure410-28-06, 04:49 PM | Hell, I wish I could roll that well. Half-Orc Sorcerer: 6,8,10,12,14,16 10 Str, 12 Dex, 14 Con, 4 Int, 14 Cha. "Krug make it go boom now." |
| Sae Cael Oanar10-28-06, 07:35 PM | ive run 3d6 set stat, where the only stat above average was a 14 be in it for the game. |
| talkingbeatles10-28-06, 08:29 PM | What's wrong with those stats? Ok, the 6 and 8 are very undesirable, but far from unplayable. I'm tired of people wanting to scrap a character just because they didn't get two or more 17s. Really people. Take what you've got, and make it golden. |

But it's equivalent of a 20 point buy so he’ll be weaker then everyone else. |
| RayOMan10-29-06, 12:29 AM | Well, could you? 6,8,10,12,14,16 and if so, what would you play? Yes. I can play a character with any stats. I would think that extremely low stats sucked but I would be more willing to play it than most of the people in my gaming group. I would play a Dwarf Fighter. 16 Str, 12 Dex, 16 Con, 10 Int, 8 Wis, 4 Cha. Then talk to my DM about using STR in place of CHA for Intimidate. |
| RayOMan10-29-06, 12:31 AM | Dwarven Druid Str 12 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 6 Wis 16 Cha 6 This is a good one. |
| RayOMan10-29-06, 12:33 AM | But it's equivalent of a 20 point buy so he’ll be weaker then everyone else. The other players could roll low too. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe10-29-06, 12:41 AM | Pretty much since I'm a power gamer I have to have at least 1 18, so no. There's no way I could play as a character with those stats. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs10-29-06, 12:44 AM | I'd use that, sure. Probably go goblin, Str 10 (8) Dex 14 (16) Con 12 Int 16 Wis 8 Cha 6 (4) , and start that swashbuckler/wizard/eldritch knight/fatespinner I've been wanting to try out for awhile. He wouldn't talk much. He'd just let his insightful arcane strike speak for him, and break out the save or dies for folks that didn't listen well to damage. :smirk: Pretty much since I'm a power gamer I have to have at least 1 18, so no. There's no way I could play as a character with those stats.Real powergamers don't get excited over an 18, compared to 16s and 14s in the right places. ;) |
| Jon of the North10-29-06, 01:15 AM | Yes. Most of the above are very good ideas. I'd go wizard. Also, as a GM I would smile upon a player who didn't whine about his scores and just played the hand he was dealt. Not as in "oh, everyone failed thier save... except (Your PC) who got a +... 16 bonus from... luck?" but a nice item, some fame, maybe hot serving wrenches who are so intrested in (class focus) ;) . |
| Benedictus10-29-06, 01:28 AM | 6,8,10,12,14,16 becomes Elf Rogue multiclasses with Scout and or Ranger. An Archer. str 10 dex 18 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 14 Cha 6 Sort of a tragic hero. Had his face and skull stomped by an orc when he was a kid. Improved Initiative for a first feat. Max out spot and listen; hide and move silently, climb, jump, and balance. He surprises more often than he's surprised. Picks his fights and tries to get sneak attack arrows in the surprise round and while the targets are flatfooted. With cover and high ground combined with keeping rough terrain (like forests) for the balance check requirements between him and them he can manage. Staying in cover is very important because he won't have many hit points. He will have a safe simple plan that works for him and stick with it. Is he playable? If he gets a few levels in his natural forest habitat to toughen up some he might be ok. |
| X-Codes10-29-06, 02:19 AM | Halfling Druid 4 S, 10 D, 14 C, 10 I, 16 W, 12 Ch Rely on my Riding Dog companion to do damage. Take Greenbound Summoning at level 1 and Extend Spell at level 3. Use Extended Produce Flame spells to attack from levels 3 to 5, and then start Wildshaping at level 6 when I get Natural Spell. If Flaws are allowed then I'll take Noncombatant and Inattentive for SF: Conjuation and Augment Summoning at first and take Metamagic School Focus (Conjuration) at level 9. Not just playable, powerful. |
| Daxen10-30-06, 09:53 PM | 6,8,10,12,14,16 I would have to go for a Dwarf with this one. Charisma as a dump stat 6 becomes a 4 from there you can play anything not charisma dependant. Fighter: Str: 16 Dex: 10 Con: 14(16) Int: 8 Wis:12 Cha:6(4) Wizard: Str: 8 Dex: 14 Con:12(14) Int:16 Wis:10 Cha:6(4) Rogue: Str:10 Dex:16 Con:8(10) Int:14 Wis:12 Cha:6(4) The 6 kinda sucks the six and 8 together are rough, but it is well within the scope of a playable character. |
| ShubNiggurath10-31-06, 05:52 AM | Dwarven Druid Str 12 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 6 Wis 16 Cha 6 Almost. Play a GNOME druid with a riding dog animal companion Str 6 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 12 Wis 16 Cha 6 Let your animal companion fight for you and use a sling. Use no armor and max out hide (you have +4 since you are small). Maybe take 1 monk level. Go for augment summoning as a feat. Take imbued summoning (PHB2), natural spell and ashbound (PGtF) as soon as you can. Switch your animal companion to a brown bear at 7th level. OR you could play an anthropomorphic bat (SS) druid with VoP and win the game. Take 1 monk level for extra fun. Str 4 Dex 10 Con 16 Int 12 Wis 22 Cha 4 AC21 as monk 1 (10+1 small+6 wis+4 VoP) and you can fly |
| angryman10-31-06, 09:15 AM | My paladin who survived over a year's gaming had 8 DEX and 10 CON. |
| Chaser10-31-06, 10:45 AM | What's wrong with those stats? Ok, the 6 and 8 are very undesirable, but far from unplayable. I'm tired of people wanting to scrap a character just because they didn't get two or more 17s. Really people. Take what you've got, and make it golden. They are terrible. The DM wants you to play handicapped against all the other players and all the monsters with a 20 point buy equivalent, in a number-crunching-by-design game. Ask for the same numbers the best character at the table has, and tell him "Why don't you see how well I can run with that?" Random generation that leaves some characters worse off just overemphasizes one of the gamers worst points: the first six rolls you make are the most important, for weeks, months, or years of playing. Blecch. That is, of course, if you rolled the scores. Otoh, if everyone has those scores, then that's fair for all, so go with it. Use Otto's method at campaign starts: Each person generates one ability score for the whole table by taking 3 out of 4d6 one time. Stop when the table gets to 6 scores. Everyone gets those 6 scores, to assign at will. The various point buys are alright as well, as long as you get more than 20 points to start. |
| angryman10-31-06, 10:46 AM | This is why I not only use point buy, but allow players to take average HP if they roll low. :) |
| RobbyPants10-31-06, 11:03 AM | I'd have a few ideas: A very clumsy and naive human wizard (fun RP, but a little weak) Str 10 Int 16 Dex 8 Wis 6 Con 12 Cha 14 A crude, course half-orc barbarian Str 18 Int 8 Dex 12 Wis 8 Con 14 Cha 4 It is a bit tough with two bad rolls like that (espescially the 6). The trick to playing odd stats is to not have any character concept until after you have the rolls, otherwise you can get disapointed easily. |
| Aufenshauft10-31-06, 03:13 PM | The problem people who see the scores and wince are seeing is that you will simply not be survivable as a character in normal gaming. This is most likely due to trying to play a MAD class (pally, monk), or having any character with low physical stats and going toe-to-toe with BBEG. Solution- low stat required characters Rogues don't even have to get dirty- decent dex and intelligence and you are fine. Just don't expect to rely on ability scores to be great at everything. Ninjas for the same reason, though they do rely on wis, one feat can change that to rely on intelligence (Kung Fu Genious) Sorcerors and Wizards only need one good score and a decent con to survive one hit a day. Warlocks haven't even been mentioned- they don't need any high scores at all depending on what invocations you get. Sure, you might have some weak points, but as you play you would have to use more teamwork and battlefield control rather than up front firepower. It significantly changes things. But you would have an easier time asking for extra XP as the challenges are higher than your ECL would indicate. |
| Imban10-31-06, 03:32 PM | Actually, I think I'd much rather play this character - who can at least be a playable spellcaster - than a character who's average (or bad, but that doesn't really happen on 4d6 drop lowest) at everything. That just gives you a character who, while not a bad person, is not really suited to adventuring as any class. (By average at everything, I mean a character like... well, I'd rather play 16/14/12/10/8/6 than even Mr. 13/13/13/13/13/13, since he's not actually good at anything, despite being a 30-point character.) |
| wonlee7610-31-06, 05:44 PM | Yes, the stats are playable. However, whether you will have fun playing such a PC depends on your preference and in some degree depends on the stats of the rest of the group. But even then it could be playable. It all depends on your preferences. I could see a person used to high stats or a high point buy having no desire to play those stats because he thinks its not "fun" and give up. I could see another player who thinks they suck but could work a character design around the stats to make it playable (in this case I would recommend a wizard or druid) who despite the lower stats would have some success. Or you could just play a character and have it die so you get a chance to re-roll stats (I have to presume this is rolled stats since I don't think any DM in their right mind would give you 20 point buy). |
| Downtym10-31-06, 05:53 PM | Well, could you? 6,8,10,12,14,16 and if so, what would you play? I play a character with marginally better stats (depending on your definition of better) Victoria, Sword of the Crusade 11th level Fighter Strength 15 Con 12 Dex 13 Int 14 Wis 8 Cha 13 |
| Karma10-31-06, 06:21 PM | I'd play: Half-orc barbarian Str 18, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 4, Wis 10, Cha 6 And hope he never died. That would be a very, very fun character to play or play with. That is the kind of character that I would play him as very innocent but very loyal and affectionate to one or more characters. That spells TONS of fun. |
| ornitholestes10-31-06, 08:37 PM | Warforged Psion (Shaper) Str 10 Dex 12 Con 16 Int 16 Wis 6 Cha 4 I'd take adamantine body to augment my low dex (psions may not be proficent in heavy armor, but the penalty from adamantine body is not an armor check penalty so proficency is a non-issue). He (it?) would be brilliant but have absolutly no understand of other people people or real world work. Nothing wrong with having below average stats, you may be at a disadvantage but thats just an oppurtunity for greatness. I see it this way: if my character "weak" dies, he dies - it was probably expected and doesn't reflect badly on me. That said, if I do manage to prevail every success is a victory against odds. A long lasting character with below average scores a fun accomplishment. |
| albinomonkeyking10-31-06, 09:05 PM | The trick to playing odd stats is to not have any character concept until after you have the rolls, otherwise you can get disapointed easily. I think RobbyPants nailed it on the head. As for me.....eeeehhh maybe. I tend to have the habit of thinking of D&D all the time so falling in love with a character concept before I even need a new character, if this didn't fit my new character I would try and get new stats.......but if all is fair (the other characters have similar stats) I would just get over it and make a new concept. |
| MaximumPain11-01-06, 05:03 AM | Those stats are ok play a wiz or sorc 16 on the casting stat 14 on con and 12 on dex. People are spoiled sometimes lol. |
| Pegasos98911-01-06, 03:03 PM | Those are rolled. In rolling, average result is about 25 pointbuy, half of the players roll less than it, half roll better. 5 to either direction is not very far from average. I just hate it when first people say "CR equivalent fights are far too easy" and then go "Oh my god! Those stats are below average! Reroll!"... In rolling, you take a risk: You might get better than average or worse. If you wanted certainty, you would be using pointbuy but no, if someone wants to roll and wants to reroll at below average (which is, half of the rolls), what is the actual point in rolling? I think that half-orc barbarian with STR 18, con 14, dex 12, Wisdom 10, Int 6, cha 4 would be very wierd to rp but could also be both reasonably efficient and fun. Sure, if this is a high-powered game in which everyone else is an equivalent of 32+ pointbuy, you would be crippled but if average 25 pointbuy equivalent of 4d6 drop lowest, not a problem to play in such. So, practically any caster with casting stat 16, con 14, dex 12, warrior type with STR 16, con 14, dex 12 or rogue with dex 16, con 14 and int 12 should do. Practically any class aside from paladin or monk (or possibly non-core such as duskblade) could do with two good stats and 1 average. |
