| Save-vs-DM11-09-06, 02:50 AM | So, I have an unusal problem - my buddy and fellow DM is an extremely lucky person. To the point that we've seen him roll 4 natural 20s in a row, in the open, with different dice - completely legitimately. He's a great DM, a great player, and we don't really have any other problem save the luck - that results in multiple criticals that nearly decimate the party on a regular basis. Now, normally we'd deck out the party in fortification armor or robes and not give it a second thought, save that his games are always rather low wealth (we're nearly level 2 and our highest gold PC is like 275 gp - the best armor is a breastplate and no one has even so much as a masterwork weapon). This really isn't a problem, as we all realize that we have to play smarter not tougher - save that we have 4 PCs with above average stats facing enemies of equal CR to CR+2 (we just fought a Giant Stag Beetle and my Orc Crusader took a 41 point critical - only my steely resolve pool kept me from dying outright, that and our house rule of death occurring at -Con instead of -10). So, any advice on how to gird ourselves against the fantastic luck of my fellow DM, Mr. Luckypants? Cheers, Save vs DM |

Anything with a threat range greater than 1 gets reduced by 1, and any crit multiplier greater than x2 gets reduced by 1 (so a longsword goes from 19-20 x2 to 20 x2, and a greataxe goes from x3 to x2). At least that way when he rolls them, you don't get stomped too bad ;). |
