| Zokathra03-29-07, 11:12 PM | Looking for ideas for an antimagic / countermagic spellcaster. Some limitations: Has to be a Cleric (or variant thereof). Can't take the Mage Slayer feat, can't be a Spellthief, Mage-Killer, or Occult Slayer. Improved Counterspell and the like are definately in though. Essentially, they are adept at negating/countering the magic of enemy spellcasters, but leave the killing to others. Any ideas? |
| Pizzini300003-29-07, 11:25 PM | uh.... be a cleric, take the Improved Counterspell feat, pick domains that grants you access to schools of magic that you wouldn't normally have access too. like an illusion domain (the only illusion spell clerics get normally is silence, a lvl 2 spell) maybe take up item creation feats like craft construct so you can make golems... I think golems are often immune to magic. |

(ferune, lets you counter as though you readied an action) divine metamagic set to empower, boosts dispell, and is all around good. quicken spell. honestly, a wizard or sorcerer is better for this, and the archmage grants the ability to reflect countered spells. |

Sounds like something you may want to look into. Googled for it and found this: DIVINE COUNTERSPELL: Cleric or Paladin, 1st or 4th Level, Knowledge (arcana) 1 rank, lose turn/rebuke undead; 1 + Charisma modifier times per day can use dispel magic to counter a spell, adding cleric level to d20 roll and do not need to identify spell being cast. Is it worth losing your turn/rebuke undead class feature (and all the feats that that feature is a prerequisite for) in order to get a few extra Dispel Magics per day? I guess so if that's the character you want to RP, but good luck to the party if they ever come across Undead. :) |
| Aminvelos03-30-07, 01:10 AM | pretty much a dispel check instead of a turning check. Use cleric lvl instead of caster lvl + 1d20. Can only counter spell 1+ cha mod. per day |

From what I can tell by reading it, the +2 bonus you get on this check for having 5 ranks in K(religion) allows you to break the normal cap of +10 on dispel magic. And losing access to divine feats is only important if you were planning on taking any. If you can meet the prequisites, you can take Elven Spell Lore from the PHB2 for an additional +2 on your dispel checks. Just being a cleric archer with self-buffs and Zen Archery can give you a half-decent chance to ruin spellcasting with damage, forcing Concentration checks. |
