| The White Sorcerer12-03-06, 08:55 AM | I started to roll up a character the other day How? 19 and 20 are impossible using the normal method. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 09:15 AM | well, whats the normal method i thought it was 5d6s |
| Romtos12-03-06, 09:16 AM | i know the class is a cross between Fighter and Bard is anyone is willing to help, please messege me or add me on yahoo or MSN messenger heres my add stealthangel401@hotmail/yahoo.com Or we discuss the matter on this very message board so we all can learn from it. |
| Romtos12-03-06, 09:16 AM | well, whats the normal method The sum of 4d6 drop lowest. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 09:17 AM | what do you mean |
| rks12-03-06, 09:21 AM | Fishfinger: There are several ways to generate ability scores. One is to roll 4d6 and take away the lowest result. Another is to roll 3d6. A third to use the point-buy system. You used 5d6, not as common but sure powerful. |
| Romtos12-03-06, 09:21 AM | what do you mean Please quote. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 09:23 AM | the DM's i go with always say use 5d6, its how they make there characters, before i just use to roll a D20 (not actully knowing there was a set way to make a character untill just recently) |
| draco111912-03-06, 09:40 AM | the DM's i go with always say use 5d6, its how they make there characters, before i just use to roll a D20 (not actully knowing there was a set way to make a character untill just recently) There's also an option to use 5d6, but YOU DROP THE TWO LOWEST DICE before you add up the total. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 09:48 AM | oh crap |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 09:56 AM | 18 +18 +19 +20 total of: 75 (and i droped the two lowest stats which would be two out of the four 18s i got) so what do i do with the total now? |
| Arameas12-03-06, 10:26 AM | What he means is that if you roll 5d6, you drop the lowest two D6 rolls.. Basically the MAX you can have is 18 (6+6+6). As said the basic stat roll up is to roll 4D6 and then to remove the lowest (giving you a score between 3 and 18... though most DM's have a minimum stat). With this the scores do average around 10/11 but can be anywhere across the range. Of course this is all up to your DM as to exactly how they want to do it. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 10:49 AM | so what are you saying i was supose to roll 8 time instead of 6? |
| serow_#R12-03-06, 10:52 AM | u roll 5d6 and you get a 1,2,3,4,5 you ignore the 1 and 2 you now have 3+4+5 = 12 repeat for your other stats |
| The White Sorcerer12-03-06, 10:52 AM | so what are you saying i was supose to roll 8 time instead of 6? No. You roll 5d6 and get, say, 5, 4, 6, 1, 2. You drop the two lowest, 1 and 2. Then you add the rest for a total of 15. Repeat this for five more times. |
| fishfinger12-03-06, 11:09 AM | ok so what do i do then? |
| Board_Rider12-03-06, 11:30 AM | I think that this is a joke but if it is not you seriously need to read the Players Handbook. Rolling for you abilities: The 5d6 method -Roll 5 6-sided dice and take (or add together) the 3 highest numbers of the 5 dice rolled. EXAMPLE: You roll 5d6 and get the results of 3,2,5,5,6. Seeing that the numbers 5,5 and 6 are your highest you add them together, which equates to 16, and write that number down. Follow this exact process 5 more times. You will end up with 6 numbers that were added together using the method above. Those 6 numbers are what will become your ability scores or "stats". Place each number next to either STrength, Constitution, Dexterity, Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma. Feel free to put those generated numbers in the best possible place to make your PC better. |
| claypigeons12-03-06, 11:42 AM | ok so what do i do then? RTFM. Seriously, read the PHB. Almost all of it is online in the form of the SRD. |
| The White Sorcerer12-03-06, 12:00 PM | Almost all of it is online in the form of the SRD. Almost being the keyword. Character creation, for example, isn't included. |
| Angelflesh12-03-06, 12:10 PM | Look buddy, about half a dozen people have throughly explained how you generate your ability scores. I can't, for the life of me, understand how you can still be confused. Please, please, emphasize the specific issue that is still confusing you. |
| The White Sorcerer12-04-06, 01:09 AM | ok so what do i do then? Then you read the Player's Handbook and ask your DM to hold your hand through the process. |
| Airos12-04-06, 03:11 AM | I hope this is all a joke... If you're having this much trouble with rolling stats, I don't think pen & paper D&D is for you. what do you mean It's the single most basic step in making your character. oh crap That's right. Most people that I know roll up their 6 stats well before they move on to any of the other steps, such as the difficult task of choosing a race, the overly complex decision of picking a class, and the headache inducing skills and feats selection. so what are you saying i was supose to roll 8 time instead of 6? ...:twitch: Please give your books to the Salvation Army. There's under-privileged gamers that can put them to use. ok so what do i do then? Go buy Demon Stone for either the Xbox or PS2, as that's as close as you're ever going to get to D&D. Please note that this post was made in jest. Nobody should have to play Demon Stone. :P |
