| LeePriest08-13-04, 07:40 PM | I am makeing a fighter who will be good at lying. Other than the Bluff and Intimidation skills and the pursuasive feat. Is there anything else I can do? thanks |
| Cymraegmorgan08-13-04, 08:13 PM | Forgery. I would sacrifice some strength beef up charisma, and he needs Intelligence. Why not make him a Bard? |
| Thorak08-13-04, 08:36 PM | High charisma will be key, because most of the social skills rely on it, as noted by Cymraegmorgan. High Int is good too, for bonus skill points to apply to those skills. If you're making a combat-type character, rather than specifically a Fighter, I'd suggest the Swashbuckler. If only because the Insightful Strike bonus with the high Int that'd help otherwise is a nice synergy. Ideally, I'd say Paladin for the high Charisma you need more, but lying and paladins don't mix well. Unless you can plan with the DM a method to fall later on, and a decent character workup that'd allow it without being hypocritical (not easy, and often not done IMHO), and aim to leave the lying and such for a bit later when you become a Blackguard. Which would be really neat, but as I said, it's hard to plan for it without metagaming your character into it. |
| Beamup08-13-04, 09:11 PM | You might also consider trying Fighter/Rogue. This would get you a very good liar who can fight reasonably well, while straight Fighter simply can't get decent lying skills. None of the applicable skills are on their class skill list and they don't get enough skill points to do it properly. Skills you should have: Bluff Disguise Forgery Gather Information (for background to produce believable lies) Sense Motive (a liar should be able to tell when somebody is lying to him) For feats, look at Deceitful, Persuasive, and maybe Negotiator or Investigator. |
| Super Guy08-14-04, 07:55 PM | Try the Breastplate of Command (see DM 3.5). If a Breastplate is not to your liking, or you want it mithral, just see if there is a wizard who will craft it for you. It gives you +2 to all Cha-based skills and acts (including turning undead) which is, I believe, a circumstance bonus. A stone of good luck grants, among other things, a +1 luck bonus to all skills. So, there ya go, a Breastplate of Command (which is a good item in itself, it also is good for a figher and what is more hard to believe than that your Knight in Shining Armor is a liar?) and a Stone of Good Luck (which is a good item for its bonuses, but it is costly. You're better off just getting a wizard to craft a lesser version that only adds a luck bonus to skills. |

| masterofmayhem08-14-04, 09:05 PM | You could consider taking the Rogue variant that loses sneak attack and gains fighter feats. Tons of skills and tons of feats . . . *sniff* It's so beautiful . . . ;) |
| Arbitrary Aardvark08-16-04, 03:48 PM | What level are you? Are you starting out at 1st? I can see three very easy builds that still let you be a fighter, or mostly a fighter. 1. In a number of the supplements, there is a feat which lets you nominate a skill which is always in class. You could do this with bluff. 2. You can take one level of a class (such as rogue) which gets bluff as a class skill. After that, even if you buy bluff cross class, your ranks are limited only to level+3, as opposed to [level+3]/2 3. Take a level of rogue every couple of levels. When you take your rogue level, buy up bluff, tumble, and whatever skills you really want to be a tricky fighter. With a decent (12 or 14) INT, you can keep about four rogue skills pretty high while only dipping into the class every four or so levels. |
| trapspringer08-16-04, 08:19 PM | Thuig varient, UA. Lose some negligable armor proficiencies and a feat for bluff and sleight of hand, as well as 4 + int skill a level. Just what you are after, I think. |
