well I couln't figure where else to post this question so I am gonna post it here....

what are the rules for creating an item with a metamagic feat attached?

for example: I want to create an item that is a command word activated flame blade effect. I want to Energy substitue it for sonic then Admixture sonic on again. how does this getdone or can it be done at all?

any help is appreciated.

It doesn't work that way with items: If you want an item to do more than it normally does, you have to pay the extra cash and XP to pay for the enhanced ability. A metamagicked wand, for example, costs more (often much more) than a normal wand of its kind, since it's effectively of a higher level.

If your DM will allow it, you can use the Screaming weapon ability from Magic of Faerun (?), which deals an extra 1d6 sonic damage as a +1 ability. Note, however, in 3.5 they've caught on that sonic is a very useful energy, since there aren't many creatures resistant to it. IIRC, the reprint of Energy Substitution in Complete Arcane won't let you use sonic anymore.

i thought i was going to be helpful but after searching through all of my core books i remembered that it is in Complete Book of Eldricth Might, which a friend is borrowing. i'll try to talk to him and repost when i find the answer, but its out there.

It works just like you'd expect it to.

Spell Level (The total spell level including adjustment from metamagic feats) x caster level (The minimum requires to cast the spell at this level, or more if desired) x 1800gp.

So in this case 5 x 9 x 1800 = 81,000.
Cost to create: 40,500gp + 3,240 xp.
Req: Caster level 9, Craft Wonderous item, Energy Substitution (Sonic), Energy Admixture (Sonic), Flame Blade.
