This might be known by most people but leadership is one of the more bizarre feats in that it has serious potential for power boost but most people only see the huge numbers and think army. There are other ways to use it too, and in the long run help the entire party.

1) Rather than just soldiers you also have a large pool of craftsmen and spies, I've actually made a lot of money with leadership by making most of my followers experts and using them to produce huge loads of gear.

2) Spellcasters, especially wizards, can hugely benefit since they can share spellbooks with followers and if done correctly each follower can theoretically expand the lower level listings of spellcasters to a frightening degree.

3) If in eberron or if you DM lets the Artificer transfer settings then a group of those as followers can be excellent, more magic items, cheaper, and you can use them for money as well, overall a good setup for the team.

i would like to make a suikoden-esque castle with an ecclectic group of craftsmen and classed npcs, who can run then castle/town/ship/island all by themselves and you can just live off the profits, have a home base which is protected, etc...you can even eventually become a small country, though your leadership would only extend to the original people in your group, who live for you as their sovereign...hehe
