Crit-Multiplied Damage question [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was reading the PHB over the other day; in particular, the damage section in the Combat chapter. It says that the only damage not multiplied is damage from extra dice. So does that mean that magic enhancement bonus, power attack, weapon specialization, et al. would multiply?

Even more crazily, would the damage bonus from Strike of Perfect Clarity (Tome of Battle, 9th-level Iron Heart strike) multiply? If I confirm-crit with a weapon that has a x4 crit multiplier with SoPC, am I actually doing over 400 points of damage with one blow? I realize that's not in the same ballpark as some of the CO builds, but that's fairly insane for a character who doesn't even know what optimization is.

For the first part of your question, yes, any damage bonus, not bonus dice to damage, is included in a critical multiplier.

Ex: Fighter is using a Flaming Greatsword +1 (+1 damage, +1d6 fire damage), and has a 14 Str (+3 damage). He power attacks for -2 to hit (+4 damage).

His total non-critical damage is 2d6+8+1d6 fire.

He criticals the Kobold. His damage output is 2 * (2d6+8) +1d6 fire.

As for the second part of the question, I am not familiar with the feat which you're referencing. However, the rule is, if it adds a damage bonus (as opposed to bonus dice to damage), that is included in the critical multiplier.

Hope it helps! :D

The +100 damage would be multiplied, yes.

Keep in mind two things: One, +100 damage is usually less efficient than making a full attack, and two, a spellcaster of that level who wants to do damage can do much more, more routinely, if they're really inclined to.

No, because the Tome of Battle explicitly states that extra damage from maneuvers are not multiplied on critical hits. When I get back to my books, I can cite a page for you, but it won't be until after the weekend. Anybody want to help me out?

Yes, page 43:

You do not multiply extra damage from a strike with a critical hit.
