My DM is preparing a game, so I've prepared a character, a halfling rogue.

The problem is that my DM decided that a halfling, in his world, should always be evil. I want my character to be CN.

Please help me out here with some arguements why my character should be CN and how that gives some great opportunities on role playing.

There's always the old "abandoned as a baby and raised by good characters so fighting his evil instincts" idea.

Well it is his game, but I personally do have a problem with say that all Halflings are evil. Since in the PHB under Races/Halflings, you will see that the Halfling alignment TENDS to be Neutral.

But once again it is his game. I guess I don't see why he would make it that way, but each his own.

I personally think CN is a VERY good alignment for a Halfling. Good luck....

Because almost no non-outsider intelligent monsters have "always" as an alignment restriction?
[Mind you, I don't like the fact that the difference between "usually" and "often" seems to be 10%].

Even trolls are only "usually" CE. Being one alignment off of the "usual" isn't too far from the pale.

Evil halflings....Careful they might bite yer ankles off. To me making all halflings evil seems a bit extreme, if he forces you to labe your character as "evil" take it, and scew your view of evil a little, just because your Alignment is "evil" doesnt mean you have to go around killing babies. Alignment is a game mechanic, you deside your characters state of mind

Keep in mind, even if he allows your PC to be "outside the normal mold" as it were, NPCs are likely to assume the worst. Similar to the reaction an Orc PC would get in standard settings. Even if you can do it, it'll be a severe liability. Just food for thought.

Hey on the world of Athas (Dark Sun) Halflings are savage canibals that people fear strictly for this reason and lots of them are evil. They eat other halflings and the other demi human races too so I can believe an evil halfling.

I played an Evil halfling once in a group of evil adventurers. His favorite phrase was "Eat Bolt!" as he would fire a bolt into someones face, often someone who wasnt even expecting an attack like a guard greeting the party would only get through half of what he was saying before he was dead on the ground effectively eating a bolt. It was lots of fun because being a halfling people never expected it.

But if you dont want to play an Evil Halfling maybe you can play this one past your DM. Your halfling was caught early in his career after murdering people and instead of executing you they used a Helm of Opposite alignment on you. They could have been elves or dwarves that captured you and didnt beleive in the death penalty. That way you can be good and have a reason. It could be your halfing now feeling bad about what he did before his atonement is trying to redeem himself by doing good.

I'll admit I'm somewhat new to gaming, but I am confused why your DM requires all halflings to be evil. That seems pretty idiotic to me. So few things I've seen have to be evil. My absolute favorite character is a CG halfling bard 9/rogue 2/ Troubadour of Stars 1 that has never even approached being evil, except or the temptation to kill an evil fellow party member whan he decided to kill my coure eladrin cohort during his very short stint at DMing. Because of him and his brother, my actual DM won't even allow evil characters anymore.

It's quite inane to force a certain alignment on anyone. I mean, I've allowed Lawful Good ORCS in my games!

I wouldn't worry too much though. If there's a difference between Chaotic Nuetral and Evil, no player has shown it to me yet...

I don't think anyone is saying that halflings can't be evil. And in your post you say "Halflings are savage canibals that people fear strictly for this reason and LOTS of them are evil." Lots of them being evil is different than ALL of them being evil. I have played an Evil Halfling before, but I'm also playing a Neutral one right now. I see NO reason to make an entire race ALWAYS be a certain alignment.

But agian I say, it is his game, and he can set it up however he wants.
