Curious about my character [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm just curious about the character I'm currently playing. I'd like to get some opinions on what experienced players think on how I'm going about this.

So far, he's a Sorceror 4/fighter 1 with a minor bloodline in gold dragon. So I will need to take a bloodline level before 12th level. I've been taking draconic feats instead of going to dragon disciple so that my spellcasting is a little better at higher levels. I might also take a 2nd level of fighter at some point.

Are metamagic feats effective with a sorceror? I hadn't planned to take any because I was going to concentrate on draconic, and combat feats(improved initiative). I don't know how far this character will go in level. Obviously he's not going to be a fighter, but the fighter levels are for ranged weapons like bows due to the limited spell selection.

How would anybody do anything different?

i would have taken a level of rogue or bard instead of fighter or i would have been a elf sorcerer and got the auto proficency with bows and stuff then as you take the blood line feats i would have gone for bladesinger since i was a elf but your character sounds cool take feats like eschew materials and silent and still spells feats and get your hands on complete arcane they have some good feats for sorcerers in there as well lots of draconic feats.

What the heck needs a sorcerer fighter levels? Thats almost like making fish use bicycles...

If you are a spellcaster, you need the metamagic to be competitive. If you are a melee type, you do not. If you try to do both, you end up short on feats for either path and being mediocre overall.

The idea behind the fighter level is
1) hit points
2) represent hardiness of draconic lineage
3) bonus feats like improved initiative to go higher up in the round.(I roll low too often, and miss on a lot of my ranged spells).

I have complete arcane, I already have Draconic Heritage and Draconic skin. The next feat I was going to get was Draconic Breath.

I don't think being mediocre is such a bad thing. Personally I think versatility can help you survive. Besides, I'd not be charging into combat.

Could someone also elaborate on Draconic Breath, its supposed to take a standard action to change a spell into the breath. Does that mean I can't cast it until the following round?

In Complete Arcane, there's Spontaneous Metamagic, which is basically for sorcerers.

Some of them can be worth it. At your current level, if you take any spontaneous metamagic feats, I wouldn't take anything that increases the spell level by more than 1. So the unchanged and +1 level ones should be okay and you'll still be able to use enough spells.

I like the character. I think the versatility is a good choice. I was also trying to create a character like that but with blue dragon blood.

Spontaneous metamagic? I can't find that anywhere in Complete Arcane

edit: nevermind, found 'em.
