| Shaggy_Shaggs12-22-05, 07:06 AM | I really like the Curst template, however I've only ever seen it appear in 3.0 Monsters of Faerun, which doesn't list level adjustments for anything. I'd like to know if there are any sources for that template that include a mention of LA. If there aren't, will some of you experienced, insightful players and DMs suggest to me (A) a proper LA for the Curst template, or (B) a similar physically tough undead template suitable for PC use, and its LA? (I prefer to stay away from lich and vampire - I'm looking for toughness rather than attack power, and suitable for ECL 6 or lower if possible.) Thanks in advance. |

| Shaggy_Shaggs12-23-05, 05:00 AM | Thanks for pointing out the necropolitan, though I admit I was looking for something a bit hardier. Still, it's a start, and can work at an extremely low ECL, so that's good. :) Now for a new question (though any more answers for a tough, low ECL undead or a LA for Curst are also appreciated). I have a human character with Str 15, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 18, Wis 17, Cha 17 (rolled that up via 4d6 drop lowest and nearly had a heart attack). I want to make him an extremely versatile spellcaster with a lot of spells per day, which is going to cost me power. The plan is sorcerer (blaster) / wizard (utility spells) / cleric (defense/healing) / mystic theurge (wizard/cleric). He's currently a level 1/2 cleric/sorcerer. The cleric domains for the character are Animal and Plant, and he's a neutral rebuker/inflicter. He does not now and will never have a familiar. The current feats are Spell Focus (conjuration), Augment Summoning, and Practiced Spellcaster (sorcerer). I plan to take Practiced Spellcaster (mystic theurge) when appropriate, but beyond that I'm kind of stuck. What other feats would be good ideas to take, in order to make up for the low power available in any one class's spells? |
| The Sinister Rogue12-23-05, 05:27 AM | Could you give me a in-game reason for this multiclassing? What does strike me is: 1. Why does your character got sorcerer and wizard? In my opinion, a sorcerer is mostly a free spirit, with no appetite for study. 2. A cleric with plant and animal domains, will in my opinion not be interested in magic. On the contrary, he/she might think of magic as something abusive. Edit: A versatile character is always a rogue, always ;) |
| Shaggy_Shaggs12-23-05, 05:47 AM | Could you give me a in-game reason for this multiclassing? My character is insane :looloo: He suffers auditory and visual hallucinations, and his gods do not exist. (He's a principle cleric that thinks he's a deity cleric, basically.) One of the edicts set down by his nonexistant gods is that he must accumulate magical might by any means possible and use it frequently, in order both to gain a reputation for power (and thus gain respect for his gods), and to better advance their goals in the world. As for multiclassing into wizard that'll probably happen in a level or two - just yesterday in-game he found a spellbook in a broken down mage tower that's not supposed to exist, and that vanished into thin air as soon as he left it. (The spellbook remained, the tower he got it from vanished.) Oh... he also has tried to convert several drunks he's met, a tree, and the horses pulling the party wagon (not using speak with animals at the time, but convinced they were answering). One other thing I should note as far as roleplay goes, is that the character is not 'aware' he's multiclassed. He believes all of his powers, arcane and divine, come from his gods, and are just granted to him in different ways so long as he works for them. Sort of a 'the gods help those who help themselves' thing. |

| Shaggy_Shaggs12-23-05, 07:26 AM | A lunatic with wis 17...I see  . But I like the concept. I hope your DM and your fellow players like it as well. The DM approved the character concept well before I started building it on paper, he seems to find it amusing and he has mentioned that the character's gods may actually begin to exist if enough people start to have faith in them. There's only one other player in the game so far unfortunately, she plays the fighter. She seems to think the concept is interesting and like it, but she (and her character) are driven a bit crazy by my character's insane luck, too. The dice LOVE this character. It's like they want him to be right. Examples: *fighter is searching around for wood to build a campfire, blows two search checks in a row* Caster: *looks up at the sky and asks, ostensibly of his gods* "Y'all mind giving her a hand?" *fighter's next check finds a big load of suitable firewood* Fighter: :mymy: ........ *fighter (who is trained in dealing with animals) is struggling to get the horses to cooperate after they've been spooked by some undead* Caster: (to horses) Alright guys, how's this? Settle down and cooperate and I'll get you some treats in the next town. Some sugar for you, Mitch, Kel I know you're a diabetic so I'll see if I can find some carrots or something. *straight Charisma check, high roll* *horses cooperate* Fighter: :banghead: *bump in the road, wagon wheel snaps off and rolls away, we stop abruptly* Fighter: Now where is that wheel. Aw :censored: it's in the ditch with all the briars! Caster: No problem. *fishes it out with longspear and Dex check (natural 20)* :ayyyy!: Fighter:  :OMG! :headexplo |
| Shaggy_Shaggs12-23-05, 08:13 PM | Perhaps it was the wrong time of day to ask before, what with people being asleep, so I try again. Please, does anyone have some suggestions for feats for the spellcasting character I mentioned, to help mitigate the problem of low powered spells for each individual class? |
| Skojar12-25-05, 12:54 PM | Divine Metamagic from Complete Divine. Use turning checks to augment spells. You'll only have a few turning attempts, but each one counts as a spell level. ...That's about all I can come up with right now. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs12-25-05, 08:29 PM | Hey, that's not bad at all, thanks! |
