The stick is consumed after 1 round, and the smoke dissipates naturally. - SRD .... Sure sounds like a cigarette to me. :rolleyes: I mean, when's the last time you smoked a cigarette in six seconds? And what is wrong with the cigarette whose smoke fills a ten foot cube? For the matter, since when is a cigarette made of wood? I guess I should stop smoking these other things, then... :rolleyes: |

If you use filters, then you don't have the billion chemicals that are added to the cigarette by Marlboro and Winston. But the filters probably have the majority of the added chemical's anyways, so it's probably a moot point anyways... And if you're smoking, it's kind of oxymoronic to be worrying about your lungs anyway. :P |
| Count Arioch the 28th04-07-05, 08:47 PM | Filtered cigarettes are worse for you than unfiltered, on account that the filters are made of fiberglass, of all things. Every time you puff on a filtered cigarette, you get a lungful of hot fiberglass, which will cause a lot mroe damage than the tars the filter removes. Filters are there to make the cigarette less harsh, not for any health reason. However, I'd like to point out that there's no such thing as a safe cigarette, this is all relative here, an unfiltered cigarette will still give you lung cancer and all that crap. |

If it's anything, it's more like 3 to 1. And, yeah, I'm female myself. Just catch me on the 2-3 days I get PMS, and you'll know right-quick I'm no guy pretending to be a girl! Anyway, back on topic, I'd expect D&D characters to smoke pipes, not cigarettes... paper's expensive. |

In my group, anyways, we have had to play D&D secretly since High School. That's been about ten years, now... But people, especially those of the finer sex, just don't understand. It's not worth the label. But play we do, just in secret. (Actually, as 3 out of 5 of us are married and 2 of those 3 have children, the secrecy thing works pretty well.) |

D&D is very appealing to the girl who likes fantasy. Sure, guys are more likely to enjoy just "killing stuff" (though one of my fellow gamers is a powergamer who plays a wizard/fighter aimed at doing nothing more than killing stuff); but there's a lot more than that to D&D. --Storytelling. This attracts actors, generally, and there are a LOT of female actors. One fellow gamer is a History major who does singing, dancing and acting in our college's productions; generally, she has a part in any given production; she often plays mischeivous, flirty rogues. This sort of girl gamer loves stepping into the shoes of a fictional character. --Writing. This sort of girl loves writing. She might be a fanfiction writer (I write LOTR fanfiction, especially fill-in-the-gaps for the Silmarillion); or she could be an original author (another friend of mine is; her stories about two friends who are sent on a quest for truth are quite good--she's also an English major). At any rate, this girl is into the story, the plot, and the setting. --History buffs. D&D is a pseudo-medieval world; and you'll get a lot of people who love the medieval/renaissance era of history interested in playing. A lot of people in my group, guys and girls, are in our college's Renaissance guild. And, when you add dragons and magic, you lose realism... but it gets more exciting--more like the stories about King Arthur and such. These are the girls who will make their own Renaissance garb and go to faires (I'm quite good at sewing, actually); and you'll see them around campus, wearing their cloaks over regular clothes. Cloaks are wonderful at keeping the wind and rain off, really; and they're warmer than the equivalent thickness of coat. These people are in it for the flavor--they enjoy the idea of a world where knights still slay dragons. --Video Gamers. One of my girl-gamer friends is really into video games. Unfortunately, this makes her rather a bad powergamer and gives her characters about as much personality as a video-game character... but then, we're not saying female gamers are perfect. She's learning to RP a little, though. Once you get past the "geek stigma" of D&D, a lot of girls realize that, hey, this stuff is fun. Sure, when it started out, it might've been a mostly-male hobby; but today, as guys bring female friends and girlfriends in; and as gender barriers in fields like Engineering, Math, and science in general are becoming increasingly penetrable, D&D is getting to be just as accessible to females as to males. I predict that in another twenty years, it'll be a fifty-fifty ratio, as both the perception of the hobby, and gender roles in the world around us, change. |

We're mostly oddballs who are willing to accept each others' idiosyncrasies in exchange for being accepted ourselves. Being weird isn't so bad if there are other people who are just as unique as you are. I'm not sure how many "geeks" are lucky enough to find friends like mine... I hope it's a lot, though. (Yes, we do practice personal hygiene. :)) |

However, you also took a -1 penalty (stackable) to Constitution that lasted 24 hours, and if you failed a DC 12 Fortitude save, you had the sickened condition until one full minute after you stopped smoking. ...and I'm a male that always plays female characters. So would you believe I'm happily married? :D |
