| damsel in distress12-29-05, 03:23 PM | I´m visiting London in the beginning of January and hope to buy lots of D&D stuff (books, magazines, miniatures) Where do I go ??? |
| babysamurai12-30-05, 05:03 AM | Orcs Nest, in Leicester Square. Forbidden Planet, on the Tottenham High Street. |
| The Phantom Flan Flinger12-31-05, 11:53 AM | Forbidden Planet is in Shaftsbury Avenue and the Orc's Nest is just off the same street, near the junction with Charing Cross Road. There's also a shop called Playin' Games, which is on one of the little streets opposite the British Museum. Tottenham Court Road is the best Tube station if you're going to visit all three shops. Don't go too early in the day, at the Orc's Nest in particular it seems the guy opens up when he feels like it, and it's pretty cold to be standing around. ;) Also, price things up in all three shops before buying anything, as there are differences. |

It has numerous outlets all around the UK, and has one of the largest selections of D&D books for a non-gaming store, including some of the latest releases at extremely low prices. For example, most books cost only £17, including Libris Mortis, Heroes of Battle, Heroes of Horror, etc. |

| Kheldren01-01-06, 05:55 AM | Also 'Playing Games' in Museum Street (starts opposite the British Museum, shop just on right) - all the RPG stuff is in their basement. I would class Orcs' Nest and Playing Games as the main gaming shops, Forbidden Planet has an excellent selection for a bookshop, but is in no sense a genuine roleplaying shop. If you have time (and a street map) Leisure Games out in Finchley used to be excellent (and probably slightly cheaper, not being central). |
| Lyinginbedmon01-01-06, 09:36 AM | That's a good price..they wouldn't happen to sell online? They have a website (http://www.ottakars.com/Internet/home/welcome.jsp) where you can order the books, but you have to pick them up from the local store. Conveniently, they have a shop finder (http://www.ottakars.com/Internet/shopfinder/default.jsp), but it appears they have only updated it to the UK selection. |
| Dei01-01-06, 02:34 PM | Leisure Games is excellent, they have just about every gaming book on the planet, and not just DnD but almost every system I can think of and a dozen others that I've never even heard of. The price is about £20 per book for most of the core and peripherals and it's a great place to shop, the staff are all hardcore gamers and they've helped me find what I'm after more or less every time I've been in. It's a few minutes walk from Finchley Central tube station, leave the station and head up the hill to Finchley High Street, turn right, past the big Tescos on the opposite side of the road and keep a sharp eye out. If you don't live locally it can be a bit out of the way but if you can't find something elsewhere I'd recommend looking there. Peace out |
| damsel in distress01-04-06, 04:34 PM | thansk guys :-) |
| MonkeyKing01-05-06, 02:42 PM | Just to echo the sentiments of a couple of other posters, Leisure Games in Finchley has a great selection of books, miniatures and a massive range of cool dice. The prices are pretty reasonable too, pretty much what you might pay at amazon for example. Just a couple of weeks ago I was in there shopping for a buddy's Christmas present and noticed they had a set of chrome-plated dice! That's pretty sweet if you like to roll in style. It is a little bit out of the way and there's nothing else in Finchley worth seeing but you might want to make the trip anyway if you can't find what you want elsewhere. edit: almost forgot, there's a KFC across the street too and if Colonel Sanders' fried chicken don't get you down there nothing will! |
| Gailbraithe01-05-06, 04:43 PM | There is a London in Canada and in England, make sure you all know which one you are talking about! I thought the OP meant London, Ohio (http://www.londonohio.net/). Theres Londons everywhere! |
