I just wanted to know if it is possible for me to play D&D even though I am the only person I know that is trying to play. While I am a real noob to D&D, I am aware that a dungeon master is kinda required to play. Is there any way to get around this. I have alot of other questions, but they can wait until I know whether or not I can even play.

If you can't put together a face-to-face gaming group, an online game is your best bet, using message boards or instant messaging.

The 3E rules are based on a five-player gaming group; a party of four player characters plus the DM. Of course, the rules are flexible in respect to the size of the party, but minimum you still need a couple of PCs and a DM.

There are play-alone modules out there. Im not too sure how much fun they would be though. You might want to also check a local gaming or comic book store to see if there is a board to post gaming classifieds on. Best bet though is probably is as Ssussunriyh said.

Also try getting a single friend intrested. The two of you can make all the mistakes we all did when we started playing, and not be emeresed about it. But other than that it should still be fun. A 1-on-1 can even be better in some regardes to a ful table game.

Old_One, I like that Idea. I might just be able to get my brother to play. So all I really need to play now is some dice, the DM guide and a monster manual, right?

The Player's Handbook is also a must-have. Also, there is something called the System Reference Document (SRD) that, while it does not go into great detail to explain things, has a lot of good information. A link to it is in my sig.

Yeah the SRD is a good thing I dont leave my house without a coppy on my USB pen drive. Also in it are all the monsters and the magic items from the DMG (Dungen Masters Guide) and MM (Monster MAnual).

Also try getting some "minies". You don't have to buy any, you can just use stuff like Leggos or chess pieces, and print out an A3 sized battle grid, great for combats.

Welcome to the rest of your life, spent in basments and saying stuff like "Bad ref save dude" every time someone trips over his feet lol
