Our group's druid is in love with entangle. Normally it's not so bad when my Monk was still alive, but since he unfortunately got nickled and dimed to death by a troupe of orcs. I now have a Halfling Sorc who keeps getting snagged on the dam bushes.

Are there any other good ways to avoid being tangled up? I currently use a burning hands to clear my path, it's wasteful but fun. I'm thinking when I get polymorph self that I can turn into a tiny or fine creature and walk through with no problems.

Oh and if I summon swarms of bad things (tm) to attack whatever's in the bushes. Do they get stuck too?

Tell the druid if he catches you in one more entangle spell you're going to start dropping fireballs on him. Area effect spells should NOT go off on the party. If the druid can't get this through his head then he needs to be shown the error of his ways.

On a side note, why doesn't the druid entangle the enemy when they are far away? A simple party tactic:

All PCs: rdy an action to fall back
Druid: move back, (party takes their readied action), cast entangle.

The party should have moved out of the way and the monsters should be stuck in the web.

Escape Artist is a good way to get out of things like that.

But the previous suggestion is the best: just don't have the party druid do stupid things in the first place.

Yep, it's called teamwork.

It also sounds like you are moving into the area - using Burning Hands to clear a path.

If the Druid is dropping Entangle often, you might consider getting a ranged weapon with which to pick off the tangled monsters.

Or tell the druid to find a way to cast Freedom of Movement on you before entangling everything.

In the druid's defense she often uses it at distance so we can pummel whatever it is to death at range. But when things get really hairy up close and us weaker types are in immediate danger of getting stomped on by bad things she casts it on her self and the bad guys to prevent them from getting away from the Barb and Ranger and Bearshaped Druid + bear companion and diving right onto us little hp guys. Me Half-Sorc and the gnomish rogue archer. So we do get stuck sometimes but it's usually for our own protection. It's just annoying :D

So being really small doesn't help you get away from the evil tangling plants? Dam. I'll need to stock up on flasks of burning oil and alchemist's fire, and wands of burning hands, and so on.

Freedom of Movement. Check. That'll be a mandetory spell buff on me then!

fly or levatate

Personally I'd rather just sail over the entangle, and the subsquent baddies, then instagate PvP over some movement. Oh-yaa and the druid is most likely the groups healer as well, do you really want to drop a fireball on the party cleric look-a-like?

just my 2cp.

As tempting as it is I don't think my Sorc is 'harmed' enough by being stuck in some dam weeds to kill or burn the pretty druid girl.

It happened again with the tangling, but it worked out well. An orc barbarian with the obligitory great axe was 15 feet away from charging me to death and the last second tangle stopped it, and me from running. But it did buy me enough time to fry it to death.

Still no one has answered if Size has anything to do with avoiding being tangled. Or if I took shapechange and took a form with 'climbing' movement could I get through it.

Nope, size doesn't matter.

Honestly, are the battlefields, that you're all fighting on, that small or cluttered? Picking a different point to center the spell on should solve things quite nicely. If you are playing 3.5, tell her to look on pg. 307 of the DMG to see what squares she can affect. One of these times, you're going to run into a enemy that laughs at that measily 1st-level spell and crushes you because you can't get away.

Sometimes area of effect spells that don't cause direct damage can still be as dangerous as a fireball.
