Ok I'm going to screw myself...

Here's the thing.

We just recovered a dragon hord. Lots of wonderful magic items. Plus 3 of basically everything! (TEARS)

So what's the issue?

My character is going to choose something not powerfule because well...He's obsessed with magic carpets.

So I'm going to choose a carpet of flying when everyone else is getting extremely powerful stuff in comparison.

Such as a charmed bracelet of weapons.
The bracelet includes
A +3 Bow
+3 Longsword with Ghost Touch and flaming burst
+ 4 shurkens

My bow is only a Masterwork +3 Strength Bow.

I'm an archer.

Well everything for the most part is extremely powerful. Yet my character would go for this stupid flying carpet.

LOL

I know I'm screwing myself, but for roleplaying purposes I'm doing the right thing!

So I just need help...

Would it be stupid to be on the magic carpet at all times. Specially when fighting. I figure since I'm an archer the distance will come in handy.

Help give me the support to do the right thing even though I know it's going to hurt me when compared to all the other characters.

Let's see, on a carpet of flying you can sit off at about 100' (or more, up to 1100') and plink just about anything that doesn't have a ranged attack without any danger to self...

They are pretty darn handy actually. It's a shame Rug of Welcomes aren't like they used to be tho... ;)

I assume you could stay on the magic carpet at all times and that way be unable to be hit by physical attacks if you're in outdoor environments.

That is the bennefit.

Of course, one should wonder what the range on a Dispell Magic is??

i'm just curious, you mentioned the dragon horde. but you make it sound like you can only choose one thing so you're going for the carpet of flying. what's keeping you from getting the carpet and then grabbing anything else you can? if you can, indeed, get other stuff, i dont see how wanting to make sure you get a specific item first is "screwing yourself" as being able to fly is pretty tactically sound for an archer.

Well we have to select between the items basically.

Due to my character that is going to be my first pic.

Since I rolled high... I'm 2nd in pics meaning the second set I'm second to last. All the overpowered stuff is going to be taken by then. So that's the sad thing, but in playing my character (developement) I am forced to get the carpet even though nobody is expecting me to do such!

That's the sad thing.

Question what is the range on dispel magic so I can keep my distance :-P

Take the carpet; that's more useful then a +3 bow. After all, a flying archer has the mobility to cheaply kill any ground creature, if said creature has no ranged attack.
See if there's any way to get a ring of feather falling, though....or some other item you can use if you're in the air and your carpet gets toasted.

If the dragon horde is literally full of items, just split the loot equally gold-wise with the group. If the bracelet is worth more then the carpet, you are certainly entitled to the rest of your share of the treasure- either the player who takes the bracelet owes the rest of the group for the difference in magical item cost, the characters who choose lesser items get enough of the rest of the stuff (gold?) to compensate for the difference, or the bracelet is sold and the player who would have got it (but couldn't afford to pay the group its worth) gets as much gold as he is entitled to, gives the rest to the group, and uses the rest to buy himself enchanted weapons. See the section on splitting treasure (Player's handbook, I think?).

The bracelet is work 200,000 plus

my carpet 25,000

unfortunately my group doesn't play fair.

The DM has a grudge against me...for making a character stronger then his in another campaign.

He hates the fact that some newbie made a more powerful fighter then him. So I'm not going to bother trying.

Who says age brings maturity. :-P

It's the other characters (but sometimes players) you need to deal with when splitting trasure, Not the DM. The DM doesn't get a share of the treasure.

If the bracelet has the items on it, can they be removed? If so, maybe you can ask the other player/character to see if you can claim both the bow and the carpet (since the longsword is worth so much in comparison.) (Sorry, I'm not familiar with whatever the bracelet is...) You can also bargain with those who pick after you, if it comes down to it (I will take this incredibly valuable item I know you want, sell it, and get my own items, unless you....) That last option isn't very nice though.

They must be connected and your pic is your pic this is the way we've always done it unfortunately.

There is also another potential way around the dilemma, particularly if your character's Int is high enough to justify it RP wise. You mentioned that there are a lot of magic items (basically 3 of everything). Take a look at what is available. What are the odds of any of the other players even wanting the carpet? If your character knows that nobody else wants the carpet, then he would be justified in taking something else with his first pick, knowing that the carpet will still be there when he makes his next pick.

Of course the problem lies in whether or not the carpet is likely to be there in the second round, but this is not any different than when a football team has their eye on a certain player but waits until a later round to draft him knowing that he will still be there later.

Medium (100 ft + 10 ft/level). But Dispell isn't so bad now, anything that fly's floats gently to the earth (as long as it is like 60' or less high) under third edition, as dispell ends the spell in the same way as if its duration had expired. (and only supresses magic items).
