| Pyke_Moonshadow01-02-07, 09:38 AM | These simple little creatures have a CR of 1. But the fact that they effectively blind our gorup and then have decent (for level 1 or 2 characters) attack and damage bonuses they always wind up being the toughest fight of the dungeon. Any options for tactics and such? Advice would be appreciated. |

I always assumed it was the same as in earlier editions...opaque inky blackness, not just shadowy conditions. |

The creators of 3.X actually played the old editions and remembered the utter HORROR that befell their otherwise fun game when some PC or NPC decided to cast darkness. The horror.... |

For little CR 1 encounters, they pack a serious wallop, and Improved Grab + Constrict is a nasty combination. Kind hearted soul that I am, my darkmantles cease to constrict a character once he's unconscious, so the PCs have a chance to save their downed comrade. But they're a good reason to avoid wandering around in the dungeon or cavern alone. |
