Can someone put me out of my curiousity filled misery and explain the following terms? 1. Twinky 2. Railroading 3. NERF/NERFed 4. min/maxer If I find anymore I simply can't work out, I will post them here. Sorry if this has already been asked but I can't find any type of search function which would have helped.

Twinky I know basically what this one means, but I don't have an exact translation from the original American, so I'll leave it for someone else. 2. Railroading Forcing players along a pre-determined plot line - metaphorically, forcing them to follow the fixed path of the railroad, rather than choosing their own course. 3. NERF/NERFed Reduced or limited in power, generally a seemingly arbitrary limitation on the part of a DM or game-rules revision. Originates from a kids' product range called NERF or NERFball, which employs softened, safe versions of more normal sporting equipment. 4. min/maxer Someone who maximises certain stats or abilities by putting the bare minimum into those not directly related to his character's chosen speciality, rather than creating a balanced character. Not necessarily a prejorative (a min-maxer is, at heart, simply a specialist) but can be used as such to indicate players who do this to excess.

Twinky Several possible meanings, though I mostly see this in online games, not pen and paper ones; The first is someone giving their character lots of great gear from a higher-level alternate character. The second is someone who describes their character by describing their chest size and what/how little they wear. 2. Railroading Forcing the PCs down the desired path. This can take several forms, from the "No, you don't go north, you go south" blatant way, to a DM punishing deviance by dropping 18 Great Wyrm Red Dragons on you if you step out of line. 3. NERF/NERFed Like MarkB said; made wussy. Picture getting hit with a baseball bat. Now picture getting hit with a Nerf foam bat. That's what happens when you nerf something. 4. min/maxer Someone who puts the minimum needed in places they don't need anything, to put the most where they want it. Their character creation process is entirely dictated by this minimum needed/maximum benefit mindset. A little min/max is unavoidable, but it shouldn't be the defining way you build a character, if you're going to be roleplaying (as opposed to single-miniature wargaming, which is what I'd call the alternative).

See also - powergamer, twink, min/maxer. BBEG abbr. - Big Bad Evil Guy or Big Bad End Guy. Referring to an important or the most important villian. See also - boss.
