You give up a few things for a special mount as a paladin (minus share spells and Command similar creatures). The scout skirmish abilities are usable while mounted, and the mount gains some of the regular scout's class features. Anyway, it seems like this would fit very well for a Talenta Plains halfling (Eberron). And I know some creatures can be taken as alternative mounts, effectively having a level adjustment for special mount abilities. Thing is, I don't see one listed for deinonychus (aka clawfoot) in the SRD. Does anyone know of any sources that do list how many levels lower it would be? If not, what seems reasonable? How much levels better is a clawfoot over a riding dog? If it seems ridiculous, would it be fair to petition that I buy it as normal and still get special mount benefits? I'd be paying money for what I should get via class feature, but it does cover a difference in power. |

If they're both the same CR, HD, attack damage and whatever else you may find important, then just keep the bonus features as normal. If there is a drastic difference, then adjust as you and your DM see fit. Definitely work with your DM on this too, he / she may have some insight into what you are looking for. I'd give more help and compare them myself, but I don't have any of my books within reach. |

You said it gave you a special mount "as a paladin," so the short answer is a resounding YES! |
