Deity is Nuetral [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-29-07, 02:12 PM My roomate is telling me that because my deity is True Nuetral that I can't be anything other than Nuetral. Is this true because and if so, where do I find that rule. The places he told me to look (Cleric details and the Religion section of the PHB don't have it there). Please help me prove him wrong.

11-29-07, 02:24 PM I believe that you can be one away - however don't quote me on this. So, if you're good aligned, you can give praise to a good- or neutral-aligned deity. I think neutral characters can choose a deity of any alignment. I could be wrong on this, though, and be thinking of something else.

BTW: It's "neutral," not "nuetral." Sorry, I'm just a stink for spelling and good grammar, and you already used the latter.

Alignment

A cleric’s alignment must be within one step of his deity’s (that is, it may be one step away on either the lawful-chaotic axis or the good-evil axis, but not both). A cleric may not be neutral unless his deity’s alignment is also neutral.

Basically, you can be one step from the deity, so you can be:

NG
LN
N
CN
NE

I think your friend is confused with the fact that a Cleric can NOT be True Neutral unless his deity is.
