Hello, I'm here wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to play Demons or Devils as playable character races. Are there race classes that you can go through already set up or is there anything at all that you can use to play as one, or do you have to judge for yourself based offa the basic set up of classes?
If anyone knows please let me know, I have been wanting to play one for a while and just haven't been able to actually do with it what I want. I have attempted to create the race class myself but I would much rather see if there is a better way of doing it. Thanks much for your help.

Well there is the Chain Devil racial progression in the Planar Handbook.

Offhand I can't remember if there are any others in that book though.....

One problem I can see with playing a devil: How do you work out getting promoted / demoted / destroyed by the greater powers? Your level adjustment and racial hit dice can really see-saw.

Although that would make for an interesting campaign premise. Start as a lowly dretch and work your way up through the ranks to pit fiend. It would be hard to work on the class levels though. I can forsee situations where a class which complemented one devilish race doesn't agree with the new one.

I thought about doing the whole progression thing as well with the ranks in Demon/ Devil, from dretch to Balor and Lemure/Imp to Pit Fiend, but for the Campaign I was wanting to DM I was wanting to do a nice progression smoothing transactions between the race and possible class usage. For example I thought it would be cool just to build up an Imp to his full potential, beginning a 1HD and then after fulfilling out his levels, then being able to progress in a sorcerer/wizard class.

Looks like you're trying to adhere to the fiendish hierarchy as much as possible. I think that's a bad way to go about it, as there are no rules for doing it and your abilities will be jumping all over the place. I'd recommend using this:

Here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=9285363) is another attempt to make fiends playable. Be ware howewer, that the author tends to make overpowered things.

There are some in SS but you will have to check there abilities before playing. SS is stuck between 3.0 and 3.5. Devils are Imp, Hamatula (barded devil), and Kyton (Chain devil). Demons Succubus/Incubus, and Vrock.

No, the author makes balanced things. It's not the fault of the author that WotC thinks you need magic to be overpowered, and everything else needs to suck the wizard's dust.
