Railroading campanes: The sign of a stupid/idiot/evil DM. Nobody likes being forced to act out some one else's sick fantasies and not have a say in it. And lots of people post about " :censored: DM railroaded me to do crap" or "I got stuck with some godly NPC's who could do the quest without us. Blindfolded"

So what we need to do is think of ways of screwing with the evil DM's who do this! As in ingame ways to do this.
So post your ultra munchkin derailing charactors/ strategies/ etc and post stories of how effective they were. By min/maxxing to oblivion, by doing werid crap to mess with the plot, we can screw up the carefully laid tracks of the crappy DM's and hopefully steer them to the light side.

I find that the best way of derailing such a campaign is to take the other players and walk out, then start DMing your own campaign. You know, the mature way, and all that. Most idiot DMs don't get the 'lesson' of how they suck when the players sink to his level.

Cant agree more. Why waste your time with somebody you dont like, who isnt going to understand any way. Vote with your feet.

Besides the Walking Strategy, there is the Sit-In Strategy. Refuse to leave the hotel/tavern/castle, tell Joe the Epic DMPC to go do it and report back to you when he has finished. The best way to avoid a railroad is to refuse to get on the train. If the DM is worth saving, this tactic might get his attention.

I find that treachery and mutiny go hand in hand to ensure you can do the quest for yourself. My DMs Epic Barbarian went into a fight with an old Gold Dragon. Me, a sorceror, and my cleric friend then began to cast degrading spells (such as ray of enfeeblement, contagion, hold person e.tc). His will save was his big let down, it was only +5, so most of the spells effected him. Of course this angered the DM so he made the dragon ignore his PC and go for us two. WE managed to rope trick away after both casting horrid wilting. The dragon still did not attack him but decided to 'wait' for us two to come out of hiding. WE then made a complaint that this was obvious bias, he said " The dragon is so angry that you used rope trick it doesn't care about MY character". Fortunately the horrid wilting killed his pc, then we managed to flee from the dragon.

When in the past I have been faced with "Uber-DMPCs" and Railroaded plot-lines, I generally use the "sit-in scenario". Just go down to the bar and drink for a while, then go read or sleep. Go talk to the blacksmith with no actual intention of purchasing anything or following any of the leads he gives you. Just mill around and hang out. Like a vacation for your PC. :D

Say to your DM, after trying 35 different things and failing at all of them because he is railroading:

You: "OH! I got it! I have the solution! But I had to realize somthing first!"

DM: "What?"

You: "I have legs and you suck at DMing!" *walks out the door*

If you dont have fun with a game, there are three options:

A: Run your own

B: Talk to the DM

C: Act like an 8 year old, and try to ruin it for the other players who may be having fun.

I agree with the walkout idea.

I've had a railroader before, though I didn't realize at the time.

My ranger was blinded, then attacked by his own animal companion (can this even happen?) and she denied me the listen check I was entitled to and said I had to guess which square he was in.

She also tried to deny him a survival check to find shelter from a storm.

"No, you can't. How would your character know where a cave is?"

"He's a ranger!"

She also let the dwarves in the party take my character's quest reward while he was blind. Denying him a sense motive check against their lies that "The old man didn't give anyone anything!"

For a different game we had a DM who didn't like roleplaying at all, and didn't let my monk have nonmagical RP gear. I wanted my character's sense motive checks to be roleplayed with a glowing stone he wore around his neck, to which only he was attuned with. he also got ****** when I made a background story "you can't go making stuff up like that!" was his reaction.
