Is there any way to gain your dexterity modifier instead of your str modifier on melee damage?

Yes.

The Weapon Finesse feat lets you use your dexterity bonus on light weapons that were made for your size category.

In Tome of Battle, there's a feat that allows you to add Dex instead of Str to damage when wielding a weapon of the Shadow Hand discipline while in a Shadow Hand stance. It's feat intensive (3 feats total) if you're not a swordsage, but there are some nice stances for Shadow Hand that make it reasonable.

He said DAMAGE, not attack.

Every last suggestion here has been mentioned already -- see the link in Griff's reply and please stop repeating yourselves.

This is a common question and that link is given out extremely commonly (at one point I was posting it daily in Skills and Feats...).

(I don't mean to sound disrespectful; just frustrated that no one seems to read links.)

Do any of those apply your Dex bonus in addition to your Str bonus?

If you'd followed the link and actually read it...

Unless it says "replaces" or "instead of" on that table, it's in addition to.

Oh, you have to assume it is in addition to, as it doesn't say so. It does say if it replaces it, though. I didn't make the assumption, as assumptions are usually bad.

And yes, I did follow the link, I did actually read it, and nowhere is that explained. As we have all seen, you should never assume things in D&D.

From what you've described, have you considered swashbuckler [complete warrior] full bab class that gets weapon finess at first lvl and int to damage (as well as strength) at 3rd lvl with finessable weapons. (although not to critters immune to sneak attack)

As well as all that, your class skill list has things like tumble and balance.

(not really very wonderful past those first three levels but as far as fluff goes it sounds right down your alley)

also nice is the feat daring outlaw [complete scoundrel] for multiclass swashbuckler/rogues, progresses sneak attack with swashbuckler levels.

Something a bit more piratey is the PrC scarlet corsair [stormwrack] gives some sneak attack with full bab and feinting as a free action every few rounds.

Its not dex to damage but some sneak attack or Int to damage could help with your damage... and sounds kinda like the character you're describing.

(also if you do go down the sneak attacking path dungeon scape has a good variant that lets you do half sneak dice to things usually un-sneakable)

In that case, Swashbuckler and the Shadow Blade feat, both mentioned above, are probably the very best approximation that you can manage. If it means adopting the Tome of Battle then do so - it's well worth taking the time to learn for the benefit it brings to your game.

And yes, I did follow the link, I did actually read it, and nowhere is that explained. As we have all seen, you should never assume things in D&D. generally what you do is take what the feat/skill/spell/rule, etc says at face value. It does exactly what it says it does, no more, no less. So unless something says that it removes strength bonus to damage, (with replaces, or instead of, or the like) then it doesn't. Just as magic missile doesn't deal 48d6 points of fire damage, because the spell description does not say it does.

Don't forget he is an idiot (Borat). Borat actually has 2 I think college degrees, and maybe a doctorate. He may pretend to be stupid, but I guaranty you he isn't. Actually the way he is able to socially engineer people is quiet impressive. If anything I'd say Borat has a high Cha, and Int. And as for classes I'd put him in a beguiler, rogue, or bard.

Borat is an idiot. Sacha Baron Cohen isn't. There's a difference between the two personalities.

Borat is a fictional character, and is an idiot.

Sasha Cohen, the actor, is a genius.

So change the fluff.

Or write your own class, with your DM's input, using other classes as a model.
