| GemX11-23-05, 07:33 AM | We we were all supposed to meet for D&D night, nearly everyone couldn't make it one person was spending the night with someone (Thats fine, we knew it ahead of time), the DM was sick, and another person didn't answer his door/phone (whether he was in the shower or in the bathroom... I dont know). So one other person was available for play... wow. So after some time I decided to run an unprepared one on one session. I felt it was going fine, the other person and I were having fun. Well her boyfriend called and we agreed he could take over the game since he was a more experienced DM, since thoose few hours of unprepared DMing was my first, and we could use everything we did tonight as more background. Right when he took over he took out the "lets go on adventure" style of play and immediately seemed to wreck it and just goof off. What adventure we were about to go on, all the NPCs became very uncooperative and very sidetracking (Do DMs that try to be funny bore you guys too?). Throughout the game tonight... he put 2 level1s against 4 goblins, 2 orcs, 2 hobgoblins (in one encounter). And my little goblin barbarian :D , was unconcious for a portion of the game. The other player took it upon herself to try to get me some healing, but the DM continued making uncooperative NPCs and in the process, my Goblin got completely drunk. Everytime I tried to talk in character "Nobody could understand you." then our town gets blown up by a god from another RPG and the game pretty much ended when we took a break so my girlfriend could make her character. Is it just me being too picky with DMs or was there something wrong with this guy? Should I feel disappointed for him wrecking the game? Should I have just continued DMing the game? Normally I'm against DM NPCs, however that would've been one character at the table... I made the gobo barb simply to help out (she cared about his survival more than I did.) Sorry if this isn't the place for this kind of thing, I just needed to get it off my chest. I won't feel bad if theres no replies. |

Still, it should be noted that there could be a reason for the DMs behaviour. For example, he could just be lousy at improvising, a skill that is hard to train. He could have had a bad day, or maybe he realy didn't want to DM. This isn't an excuse to act like an arse but it could be a reason. If this ever happens again, I sugest you stop the session as soon as possible and do something else. Sometimes your just not meant to play, so save it until everybody can be there and the DM feels fit for fight (hopefully with a prepared adventure). PS. Yes, most DMs are abhorantly boring when they try to be funny. I know I am. DS. |

| Templetroll11-23-05, 05:49 PM | her boyfriend was annoyed that you were with his girlfriend having a good time without him. He deliberately did not follow what you had started, made everything miserable and deliberately nerfed your character so he could spend time being the *DM* with his girlfriend. If you ever want to have a game, DM for her and your girlfriend. they might be able to get along better and appreciate your efforts. Leave him out of it or have him play but expect him to be an ass again and then crush him like a grape. Let him know he sucked that night and you are leery of gaming with him as DM. Ask him if he is always that lousy behind the screen. ;) |
