| Vorgrim10-26-04, 12:48 AM | Ok my problem is We have 1 party member that seems to be pushy enough to the DM that he gets pretty much whatever he asks for. Example: My character and some others in the group were having some weapons created and a the weapon abilitie got denied by the DM for being too overpowered, the ability was wrathfull healing. Now mind you we werent too concerned we thought ok big deal lets move on. Well the formentioned member of the group proceeds to make a magic weapon that is intelligent and numerous other abilities. The weapons cost normally would exceed the 200,000gp limit but because it was created by him it was a loophole i guess. Ok i write that off as well maybe he is right but the way he pushed for it was kinda odd. Well then this last gaming session this same character came of with an idea that the DM aproved that he found in the exualted deeds book. It gives his character the ability to communicate telepathically with any like creature, Resistance 20 to fire/cold/? i cant remember and raises his CL by 2. Now mind you all the rest of us wanted a simple weapon enhancment and this guy manages to push the DM into letting him do all this stuff. I am 20th level and been with this group since 1st level. This is becoming a game breaking issue with me and at least 3 other party members. I am feeling like it is more work to game then fun. Any advice short of putting a smack on both of these two the DM and the Player would be great. P.S. sorry for the run on. but im cold and frustrated |

If neither of those work get pushy yourself... hell if you have to play with one player having this kind of stuff you might as well get it yourself. |
| Blackloch10-26-04, 01:22 AM | talk to the DM first..then the player..if things don't change take your other PC's and start off on your own ;) |
| Ipsissimus10-26-04, 07:50 AM | geez, does the DM owe the kid some money? Intelligent wpns even created by it's originaly handler is one of the best loopholes for a DM to abuse. Remembering the weapon is infact intelligent it can act on it's own when it feels like. As for talking to your DM? yeah that would be a good idea, though I can't see how your friend had the time to make a wpn while the rest of you just stat around and not gained any exp? Magical equipment takes time and resources, sometimes a player may have the ability but not the components to make something. How did he imbue it with intelligence? We use the character wealth chart in the DMG as a good basis for balance, though it doesn't have to be on point as long as your wealth is around that number you are of your CR. If it's signifgantly higher or lower your CR is actually different and should be adjusted or noted accordingly. |
| DM_Erik10-26-04, 09:13 AM | My group and I had that problem a while ago with our old DM. He was always making his story for 1 guy in the group (his best friend) and no monster ever targeted his Girlfriend. A very unfair Dm. We tried to talk to him about it and he didn't see it as a problem so we(4 out of 8) decided to just quit and I started Dming for them and a few extra player. Since then I've been Dming all the time (except 1 adventure where a Pc wanted to Dm) and let me tell you that I have learn a lot from that Unfair DM, I have learn everything I shouldn't do in a game to make it enjoyable for everybody. Seems to make that you Dm forgot 1 simple rule, to be consistent. Talk to him about it! If it doesn't resolve anything, try to change group and ask to Dm a game, show him what it's like to be consistent. :D |
| Board_Rider10-26-04, 12:09 PM | I agree with the all the others here as talking may solve the problem. If not, as said before, get pushy. Ask how this character is building intelligent weapons. Alternatively build something yourself and if shot down ask why the other guy got his weapon....and you got shot down. If all of this doesn't work...leave. There are 4(?) of 8 of you that can go off on your own. |
| Vorgrim10-26-04, 05:33 PM | Thanks for the replies guys, ill talk to the DM this weekend if we game. As for the intelligent weapon the player told the DM since he made the weapon that their personalities could never clash. Im no rules lawyer but i always thought the DMs rules superceded printed rules. My character i wish could make magic weapons he is only a monk But since i dont have alot of expendatures i can save my cash to buy nice things. But those are usually shot down due to the DM thinking they are too powerfull. But this whole allowing him to increase his CL by 2 this last gaming session was the last straw in equal balance play. The ability he had applied to his character is Axiomatic(sp?). A very powerfull template change. |
| jnrhayz10-26-04, 05:46 PM | I am no expert on the Book of Exalted Deeds, but I would give my monk vow of poverty and build the guy into one of those broken things from the optimization boards. Also, make sure this guy is held to exalted standards, If he isn't acting exalted, you shouldn't get anything out of that book. |
| Gamebird10-26-04, 05:46 PM | If a PC can do it, then an NPC should be able to do it too. Consider allying yourself with an NPC of equal level and ability as the favored player. Pay the character to make you the items described. Heck, marry the NPC if you can, thus getting a free cohort. Anything else I'd say would be redundant with the other good advice. Getting the DM to describe the cost of the item is a good idea. Another choice is to say the four of you want an adventure without Favored Player X because the rules are different for X, thus you want a different game. And stick to it. This requires at least one person who has a rod of adamantine for a spine and brass balls to go with it, plus the other three of you have to be willing to withstand the DM whining and being unhappy that you don't like the way he's doing things. And in any case, be ready to start a new game. 20 levels is a lot of water under the bridge and it's a great time to retire the characters before a lot of animosity gets on the table about this thing. |
