I always play wizards, first time i don't, my friend plays a sorceror so we still have spells, DM says sorcerors can cast any spell once per round even ninth level ones.

Yeah, that's a wrong rule, but what do you want us to do about it? Offer advice? You haven't even asked a question. Sympathy? I have none, just play a sorcerer next time. Best advice is to have him read up on the rules for sorcerers and spells known.

So play a Sorcerer? They sound like uber-Wizards in your DM's campaign.

Be sure to let us know how your all sorcerer party works out. ;)

WELL... Question: How can I convince him otherwise, and get around the ITS A HOUSE RULE problem, I'm not really concerned (sp?) about the uber sorceror, im concerned about the person PLAYING the sorceror, and PS there are times when someone with the intellegence of a teletubby should NOT be able to cast [insert evocation or necromancy spell here] at will.

multiclass. Duh. If that's how sorcerers work, why take more than one level?

You'll be just like him but with more HP.

The standard solution involves the corner of the DMG, and its being used as a weapon.

Just out of currosity, has he said it's a house rule, or is he honestly ignorant on how Sorcerer spell casting works? If it's the later, just get your PHB and politely correct him.

At first ignorant, after confronted, made it a house rule, i called tonight, convinced him to let me be a cleric and do the same!! I think ill use a scroll of [ spell that makes you warforged titan] with a permanency to break the power levels.

You can do a lot better then that. Mirical comes to mind...

Be a sorceror yourself. Under his rules, AoE of Power Word: Kill will net you easy experience for many levels. You don't even need to try to break the game when you have 9th level spells from the get-go.

Just take 1 level of every class that allows any manner of spell casting and have every ability in the game.

I agree with this. One of the fastest ways to show that a house rule is a bad idea (not all are, but this one sure is) is to break it completely.

Heck, he said any spell? Grab yourself an Epic Level Handbook.

Yeah; do Vengeful Gaze of God on the Tarrasque; or better yet, make an epic level spell that does the same as Vengeful Gaze Of God; yet not backfire. That should break the DM's ruling and set him back to the standard

LOL he will PAY muahahahahahahahahahhahahaahhahaha
haha

But i think ill save the epic spells for when he has us fighting god avatars. ALWAYS USES TIAMET.

What level is your party? Is he talking about you also get access to 9 level spells or is he talking about your PC being able to cast any spell he knows once per round? I think you should play a sorc, but not his way. Read up on sorc class and play it the way it is suppose to be play. The worst that could happen is him telling you that you have to cast 9th level spells.

Maybe I'm missing something vital here, whats your question? Does this have something to do with Sorcerers and Metamagic or what...?

No, I think it has more to do with a 1st-level sorcerer being able to cast meteor swarm on every round of combat, in every combat.

You also qualify for Mystic Theurge at level 2!

Not that that means anything with this type of spellcasting, just throwing it out there.

Oh, and tell your DM that I think he's an idiot.

There are some people that really should never be allowed behind the DM screen.I do believe that he qualifies. However if he is dead set on this rule of his,I suggest you have fun and start using wishes...then meteor swarms, and just sort of go down the list from there.

What is the CL that he has you cast at? A CL 1 meteor swarm isn't quite as bad as a CL30 one but it still causes major problems.

That's an interesting point.

Most direct and area of effect damage spells scale by level. It'll look pretty, but a level one fireball is only 1d6 damage.

I mean, this is still really studid 'cuz power word kill, but you know what I'm sayin'.

Does he have favortism for this pc? if not just ask him to read the rules, the dm can choose to ignore rules-but he should know what they are first!! If this is , as you say, him not knowing the rules this is easily fixed.

Does he have favortism for this pc? if not just ask him to read the rules, the dm can choose to ignore rules-but he should know what they are first!! If this is , as you say, him not knowing the rules this is easily fixed. Its his brother, im his cousin, no real favoritism.

You get access to all you know or have in scroll or spellbook.
Ace_of_time

04-01-07, 10:00 PM
Then really you only get to cast off of spells you know each round and that's not really that bad. I still say to play as a sorc and use the rules that are supposed to be used and see what happens.
LivingShadow

04-02-07, 08:13 AM
You get access to all you know or have in scroll or spellbook.

That make it a bit more reasonable because you won't have access to the super strong spells until fairly high levels.

Sounds like you should all just play Warlocks and show the DM that that is really what he is talking about.
