| psionicbattousai01-17-06, 03:50 AM | This is totally based off of a lot of the other posts I see on these forums with players having problems with DMs and DMs having problems with players. I do both. The DM we had doesn't have time anymore, and Im unwilling to give up my character. We play in a slightly high powered campaign. (28 point buy, slightly more magic items then normal, but not crazy. NO stat +6s). We all have fun. I bend/brake/incenerate rules as necessary, to add a bit of challenge here or there, or to save the players. They are constantly challenged, but they are all smart and find their way out of things, even if it does take them some time. We all roleplay, and we all roll-play. We just went from having big in-depth discussions with one-another, in-gamr, about our pasts, and why we're here, to having to join into a war. Like the kind in Heros of Battle. There have been times when Ive had to say, "Im DM, deal with it" (only after having to argue a point for some length of time). sometimes it happens when you let your players do ANYTHING within reason (power and roleplay based reason), whether theres currently a rule for it or not. And I wont spend much time looking things up. If I dont know something, ill make up something.(which is usually close). I guess my point is this: If the players and DM have fun, there is NO SUCH THING as a dm doing something wrong. and sometimes, players/dms DO need to be put in their place to keep things running smoothly. nobodies perfect. well, that rant is done. sorry to waste your time. |

And if a player does know a rule that you don't (and you trust said player) take their word for it. Either way if you make up a rule or not, be sure to set it stone or correct if after the game. (I have had a DM say to me that non lethal damage can kill someone when they are not expecting it? Basically it was a plot hook, because we wanted to knock out this captian of the guard from behind. Luckily we rolled low and only nearly killed him with non lethal damage? Go figure, DM's can make up rules but not stupid ones.) |
