| Dravda08-14-07, 08:12 PM | I've already posted this in Redgar's Repository, but I don't know if it will be approved there quick enough for my short attention span, so here goes: I'm playing in an evil campaign as a lich wizard. Pretty soon, the blackguard is going to want to buy a castle to use as a base of operations (raising his leadership score in the process), and my lich is going to want a dungeon underneath it to use as a lair and a place to hide his phylactery. So my question is this: how much does it cost to build a castle? Is there somewhere I can find this out? Also, I will need to find out how much it costs to dig a dungeon and build the interior. The kind of castle we're talking about is a big, imposing fortress that terrifies the local peasants, with a moat and walls. Thanks, everyone! |
| ToastedAmphibian08-14-07, 09:05 PM | Buy or Build? Perhapes it might be wise to look into a start-up castle, mabey a fixer-uper and go from there. If you do good, mabey yoru group could start flipping castles during their down time for proffit...... |
| Dravda08-15-07, 01:31 AM | I meant buy, but it might just be easier to conquer one for ourselves (after all, it is an evil campaign). But I doubt most castles would come with a suitable dungeon complex (maybe they would), so I at least need to know the cost of tunneling, fortifying, and decorating a dungeon. Good idea, though. Everything is so horrifically overpriced it's absurd, and most of the stuff in there is pretty much just one gimmick after another- some of them worth including as a DM, mind you if you can find it used. But by and large it's not worth spending your loot on anything in there unless your DM really loads you up. Seize a castle and have captured slaves finish the basement if it's not to your liking. |
| shadzar08-15-07, 11:03 PM | i don't know that castles go n sale that often. once taken from a lord or such form the kind the land is either kept by the king or given to someone else. probably gonna need to conquer one and finish it the way you want or have one constructed specifically to your liking. your DM will have lots to say and to decide on building a brand new castle. and don't even look at the WBL stuff or you will never have a castle. |
| Lyinginbedmon08-16-07, 07:18 PM | You have a Lich. With spells. They can probably finish most of the work in a day or two almost free of charge. |
| Naderion08-17-07, 06:52 AM | The DMG has some simple guidelines at page 101. A 15 to 25 room keep costs about 150.000 gp. If you can find an empty one (or make it empty), repairing and reequiping it might be about 50.000 gp. |
| Ioosef08-17-07, 12:10 PM | It's gonna cost you quite a bit you know. Here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/wilderness.htm#buyingBuildings)'s a link you can use, it's all in the DMG. I don't know how much building a dungeon would cost, but if you have a lich in your party... it shouldn't cost that much, and it shouldn't take that long. |
| Yeg08-17-07, 12:56 PM | You should go with the safe price of going above what you think would be reasonable. If the BG wants to buy a castle or build one, then he/she has enough money for the labor/materials or existent one. If I was the DM of that one I would set the buy for the castle of about 500000 to 750000 gold roughly. If the castle still needs to be built, then that would be more assuming that the BG is paying for the services of the achitect and engineering of different interior things like traps or trap/hidden doors. For a fresh start on the castle with the services of high level architects and such is roughly 750000 to a max I would say of 1200000 gold. |
| Dravda08-17-07, 09:42 PM | Thank you, everyone! A castle is clearly out of our price range, although you guys are right: we can just capture one and set the slaves to building the dungeon. With my lich's spells, it should be done in mere days, at most. Thanks again! -Count Dravda |
| ToastedAmphibian08-17-07, 11:56 PM | Kobolds tunnel well right? Go find some kobolds. Should be easy to kidnap/coerce, and then you have someone to watch teh battlments. (Plus they are handy little trap diggers). Just go in and kill all their leaders to show them how unsafe they really are. Then offer them a "Safer" existence as your vassals. |
