| Deathclock06-30-07, 04:39 PM | I'm doing a survey to see which game players like better, but dnd has an unfair advantage to wow because this is a dnd forum, but whatever, so im going to start with the first vote: Dnd is best! |
| mearrin6906-30-07, 04:44 PM | Just as well ask, "Which is better apples or oranges?" We're talking about two pretty different animals here. Still, if you need an answer I'll go with D&D - but you knew that, right? M |
| Dracomortis06-30-07, 04:50 PM | I bought World of Warcraft and loved it for about a month and a half. After that, it just got very boring - you do the exact same things over and over and over again. Seriously, after a while all that running around gets old. Obviously, my vote goes to D&D. |

| Need_A_Life06-30-07, 05:21 PM | DnD, easily. WoW is really interesting, but it is mindless and predictable... even the "RP"-servers are sorely lacking in roleplay, mainly because the entire game is based over "grinding" In D&D I've had entire sessions (lasting 6-8 hours) where we accomplished about nothing, and didn't roll more than a dice or two, yet they were enjoyable and remain some of my fondest memories from my time with that DM. I dislike hack'n'slash. When my old DMs campaigns turned into that, I just hoped for it to be over soon, because at the time I had "Serious Sam II" installed for exactly that purpose; carnage and slaughter. Now, that's WoW. No offense to anyone, I play WoW and can probably give advice about most any of the classes (at level 1-20 anyway, never liked the high levels) and I'm actively playing a Troll Shaman named Miffity* at the moment, but I don't miss it when haven't played for weeks/months. Unlike D&D. The times I've played it [WoW] the most was when I was playing it with a girl who's much more into it than me, basically following her around and solving pointless quests involving slaughter and/or collecting items. I can never take it seriously. Ever. With D&D, I plan ahead. I've made several threads here, whether it was to ask for help with upcoming challenges as a DM or player; I've considered my characters' personalities and backgrounds in the bus and spent hours (if not days) gathering every scrap of information relevant for my character/situation [having read the section on warforged in every Eberron book, every archetype in the PHBII and 9/10ths of the DMGII overall]. I am not saying D&D is better than WoW, at all. I just prefer it, is all. * If you have as little of a life as me, it's the Sha'tar server (european version), feel free to contact me... but don't spam! |

School is better than both. Please stay in it. :) P.S. - Starting a thread of which you pretty much know the answer is rather pointless, no? Particularly on "What's a Player to Do?" forums... | 041391klr06-30-07, 05:35 PM | Wellllllll... I play WoW all the time (70 Tauren Shaman) and DnD occasionally but, like the previous... its apples to oranges... if We're talking DDO v WOW, WoW totally pwns it...As for RP, you definetly gotta go to the Goldshire inn to experience that, make sure to say hi to the mailbox nightelves for me... HORDE FTW |
| Johnny_Angel06-30-07, 06:02 PM | I know this is going to sound like blashephy, but I never even bothered to buy WoW. One of my friends tried to get me interested in it, and I played on their computer for about 20 minutes; it just didn't appeal to me. Hands down, I vote for DnD. Now, depending on how the Conan game turns out, that might take the #1 spot for my favorite rpg. |
| HerbalTea06-30-07, 06:11 PM | The bad points of WoW: (speaking from level 70 human mage experience - in the Darkmoon Faire EU "ROLEPLAY" server...) Has boundaries No miniatures Level cap Rubbish graphics compared to the imagination Too small - seems big but after flying around everywhere on an epic flying mount, it isn't THAT big...compared to limitless DnD Everyone has the same gear eventually for their class Is a maths game Too many little kiddies COSTS PER MONTH No "sitting around the table with your mates" atmosphere Boring AI Boring classes Boring races Boring NPCs Boring areas Boring quests Boring grinding Good points about WoW: Less work than DMing - which can also be a bad point... And now....... Bad points about DnD (speaking from 30 years player/DM experience): The group can run out of nachos. Good points about DnD: It's fun It's not a computer game It's DND!!!!! Everything else... |

Everything else... Totally not biased at all =p In any case, having played extensively both: They both have their good points. WoWs good points primarily revolve around being easier to schedule in to your life since it unless you are a hardcore raider you don't need huge blocks of time to play. Also if you get a sudden urge to play you don't have to coorindate with a bunch of other people to do so. You just log in and play. D&Ds primary advantages revolve around its flexibility. Although it can be done in WoW, Roleplaying is much easier in D&D since just about any action you want can be translated in to game terms and you aren't limited by what the game wants you to do (Want to conjole your way out of a situation? Can't in WoW. You are forced to do whatever the game wants you to do to progress). However, I much prefer D&D since 1) Its cheaper, 2) It's flexibility keeps it from getting old. |

| Rorscarch06-30-07, 06:51 PM | WoW gets boring REALLY quick. I mean, half the time, all you do is grind. And it can cost a heap of cash. You don't need any money to play D&D [Thank you, SRD!] and you can still roleplay and talk to your friends properly. And remember, if there is someone your group doesn't like in D&D, you boot them out. A bit harder in WoW. I would go as far as to say that Kingdom of Loathing is better than WoW. Sure, the graphics aren't pretty, but it is funny, and it is free. |
| RedTopHat06-30-07, 06:54 PM | I think it is an unbalance comparison. one's an MMORPG, where DnD is a Table Top RPG. Both have completely different gaming styles. I still like DnD more though. |

| Bedlamtom06-30-07, 07:49 PM | There might be a game world in which apples and oranges are in fact animals. Homebrew worlds do some weird things sometimes! |
| Ayra06-30-07, 09:12 PM | I played WoW for a year. It got boring after a month and I only ever managed to get one character to level 60, but the thing that kept me on WoW was that I could play it with friends. Of course I can play D&D with friends too (and it has priority over WoW) but I don't need to wait for the DM to prepare a quest on WoW. I can play it whenever I want. Eventually the only fun thing on WoW is pvp, such as battlegrounds (for those who don't know, battlegrounds are wow minigames, like capture the flag, involving WoW pvp). Anyway, it was fun and impressive but I quit about 4 months ago. I actually renewed my subscription last week, but can't bring myself to play again. Anyway D&D has the upper hand in entertainment. WoW has the upper hand in availability. In the end entertainment beats availability, but as the first reply said: they are two different animals. WoW isn't made to compete with D&D, because one can play both WoW and D&D without cutting back on any of both. D&D is only once per week, or once every 2 weeks. In between there's WoW. And after answering the thread seriously, I have to say that the subject both doesn't match this section of the forums and after reading a bit into it, it looked like a threat meant to incite negative reactions. The answer everyone on these boards will give is obvious and then the first response given by the OP completes the whole picture... |
