Do animal companions advance in size? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was wondering if your animal companion increases in size when it acquires a certain number of HD. I.e. my 2HD wolf gained another 2HD when I got to level 3.

Since it is now a 4HD wolf, it is size of Large according to the MM. Does this mean it gains all the size increasement benefits on top of the Animal companion bonuses? Seem to be a big wolf for a 3rd level Druid then.

On the other hand, we only found out about the part in the MM about 2-3HD wolves being Medium and 4-6HD wolves being Large when my Druid became 6th level which makes it more balanced (it's basically a gimped Dire wolf now and Dire wolves are summoned at level 7, so that's not too unbalancing).

Any official answer?

oops, ok never mind. I did a search first and only now noticed I used the wrong keywords (well not the wrong, but wrongly spelled ;) )

There has been quite some discussion on it, so feel free to ignore this thread.

-edit-
actually a tremendous amount of discussion I see hehe... Maybe I should start wearing my flamesuit now
