| chaoticprime06-19-04, 08:49 PM | I have a player that snuck up on my with stacked Rage, Fury, Frenzy, and Drunken Rage abilities from his multiple classes, all of which he lovingly met the qualifications for in game. I should have taken time to study his potential build before it ruined my game, but that is in the past. What I want to know, is although Unnamed Bonuses always stack, is this an example of that? There has to be some rule against such a build, cause with all those like bonuses, it's like casting all the Buff spells on yourself infinite times, and I simply cannot challenge his character without plowing over all my other characters. |
| allenchan06-19-04, 08:57 PM | I believe that, yes, they do all stack. But shouldnt he have an AC of like... ten, when its all said and done? |
| hecate06-20-04, 03:56 AM | What classes did the player who stacked these begin with, and what classes did he receive the Rage, Fury, Frenzy, and Drunken Rage from? |
| flyingmoose06-20-04, 04:48 AM | Well, speaking strictly 3.5, Drunken Masters don't get drunken rage anymore because it's superfluous to the drink like a demon ability. The Frenzied Berserker's frenzy is specifically stated to stack with barbarian rage (resulting in a +10 to Strength and a -6 to AC). Fury I've never heard of. But in theory yes, all the bonuses should stack, but so should the penalties. He should be easier to hit than the ground by this point, so flying mages and archers would be his bane. Also, part of the problem with frenzy is that if you run out of targets, you have to either keep attacking whoever's nearby (i.e. your party) or make a DC 20 Will save to snap out of it. You can always smack him with so much strength damage he needs to rage to get out of bed. |
| allenchan06-20-04, 04:50 AM | Barbarian - Rage Drunken Master (S&F, not the CW one) - Drunken Rage Frenzied Berserker (CW, MofW)- Frenzy Beserker (dieties and demigods) - Fury ... in any case, depending on how many levels they have left, they could also take the Hordebreaker PrC, which gives bonuses similiar to the dwarven defender's Defensive Stance, to stack even more str and con on :D |
| hecate06-20-04, 02:41 PM | Originally posted by allenchan Barbarian - Rage Drunken Master (S&F, not the CW one) - Drunken Rage Frenzied Berserker (CW, MofW)- Frenzy Beserker (dieties and demigods) - Fury You are mixing a lot of 3.0 and 3.5 material. I think this is a dangerous idea; however, as FlyingMongoose has already stated, yes, these should stack (but so does the penalty). Rage and Frenzy stack. It looks as though the Battle Fury (form Deities and Demigods) does stack with Rage, but, like Frenzy, you will be trying to avoid striking allies. In fact, as FlyingMongoose stated, you will be doubly screwed: you will have to make two Will saves per round to avoid wounding allies. Interestingly, Drunken Rage is up for a little debate: it does not state expressly that it is a Barbarian Rage, but it does state, "You can rage just as a barbarian does..." This could be argued to be stacking the same bonus twice. |
| Draco_Whitewind06-21-04, 07:23 AM | actually, all that material is available in 3.0, and probably what he is using right now. but indeed, you're limited, and dangerous as hell to be close to. ~Draco |
| dantedarkstar06-21-04, 10:36 AM | Hmm... I think I'll be houseruling any such bonuses to be morale bonuses (I just hate unnamed bonuses, which are basically "pile it up" type). This way = no prob, but you have to know it ahead of time. |
| flyingmoose06-21-04, 11:35 AM | Originally posted by hecate ...however, as FlyingMongoose has already stated... ...um... Should I be offended by this? |
| Carkni06-21-04, 02:18 PM | What I do for Berserking/Furied/etc. characters is that I let them know the where their HP stands, and then the damage they take is all secretive. This makes the player more cautious, so they don't know exactly how hard to push. What you should do is use long range guys, and pump him full of arrows/magic missiles. They'll hurt like hell, but he won't know it. At the end of the rage, he should collapse. If not, he'll see how close to death he was. If they have the Endurance Feat, then this doesn't really work. |
| hecate06-21-04, 02:41 PM | Originally posted by flyingmoose ...um... Should I be offended by this? Oops! I apologize profusely! I seriously did not mean any disrespect by the mistype at all. Truth be told, I had no idea I had typed mongoose, and am not rea sure why I did. However, no, there was no malevolence or disrespect implied. Sorry, again! |

Every time I think about it I come near to crying. I just picture this 90 yr old human barbarian flying into a fury and attempting to crawl out of his sheets. hahaha I'm gonna toss that in my sig unless you mind :) |
| trapspringer06-21-04, 05:10 PM | Yea, good stuff. |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht06-21-04, 06:16 PM | The Berserk's Fury is specifically stated to not stack with the Rage ability, IIRC. |
| Moonstonedragon06-21-04, 09:57 PM | Just so I know how is it he has all these Just feats alone for drunk master/frenzied berserk Great fort, dodge, cleave, detructive rage, power attack, intimidating rage (we know he aint fighter so thats alot of levels, 12th level if human) and need evasion and rage Fury(i dont have the book for this, is it class or PrC?) so for evasion he would have to have level in rogue (cant be monk since hes certainly chaotic) What level is he and I bet his reflex and will save must suck big time, just throw alot of those at him |
| chaoticprime06-22-04, 02:27 PM | Well, the game is Gestalt, so his feats and skills are up there considerably. I found my player not to be performing his required Will saves, as well as ignoring his -2 HP Subdual a round as a result of Frenzy. Thank you for debating all this for me. Fury has to be entered as a standard action, so he was cheating there. Drunken Master has to spend a round drinking prior to his frenzy, he was also cheating there as well. I went ahead and Deus ex'd his ass, and he's talking about havning the RPGa overturn my decision...*sigh* That, I would really like to see. |
| KangTheCallipygian06-22-04, 03:31 PM | Please forgive my off-topic post - I'll try to keep it brief - but what exactly is wrong with mongeese anyhow? Those things kill cobras, man. COBRAS!!! Can a moose say that? :) Kang |
| Nick Soapdish06-22-04, 08:06 PM | Exactly. Mongeese  kill these poor, inoffensive cobras. You would never see a moose stoop to hunting down a cobra to kill it.;) :D |
