I know, its a bit personal. And I was wondering, is there is anyone on the board who thinks I should keep playing with my group?

Basically in one week, if the majority says I will quit... I will. I can go either way at this point. I promise myself and the people on the board, I will do this as well.

Pros:
1. Big one- I'm still having some degree of fun.
2. Uh... my character is broken. That won't last, my character has a sliver type thing (see MTG) that gives him +15 will saves and regeneration (I can reattach limbs but not regrow them.
3. I'm the group leader.

Cons:
1. He has this huge thing about shrapnel, whenever we use healing magic, it heals over the shrapnel. Massive infection -> death eventually if it isn't removed surgically. Also if a weapon is stuck in you, you do the damage again pulling it out, regardless of heal check, a heal check will just stop massive bleeding.
2. In over a year of playing he still doesn't know the flanking/charging benefits.
3. He still doesn't know how to properly do 90% of the special attacks as well. IE Grappling.
4. Last campaign we ended up finding Cincinati and fighting guys with guns. They had spacesuits that made them impervious from pretty much all physical damage as well.
5. We also had to fight the ship from the Philadelphia experiment... and yes... it even had the same name.
6. The campaign before that was based on halo. In which he refused to use the modern/futuristic rules set.
7. He uses books we aren't allowed to use (I guess thats ok, but it bugs the hell out of me.)
8. Half the time I have used detect magic in his campaigns, I find a school of magic I know nothing about.
9. He says 3.5 is completely incompatible with anything from 3.0. IE he treats it like it was 4.0
10. Last campaign, PKing was so rampant a high level cleric cursed us to make it so whenever we fight each other, we hit ourselves. That is the most powerful curse ever created I must say, since it worked on magic as well.
11. He refuses to help resolve any in character issue, regarldess how little fun some players might be having.
12. He doesn't give us any chance at all to spot ambushes 90% of the time, regardless of how rediculously high my spot/listen is and if I have darkvision/blindsense.
13. I have a sliver/Gould thing in me which is impossible to remove, trust me, I've tried literally everything short of a wish.
14. "Psionics are BROKEN!!!!"
15. He described creatures made of pure magma with nothing on them and after we killed them and left he said we missed their treasure drop on their corpses, and wouldn't let us go back to fetch them, even though he clearly described them not having any items.
16. Im the only one who talks in character.

I'm not sure I understand the problem here. Isn't that how the detect magic works (assuming you make your spellcraft check). You get the strength and the school, not the actual spell involved.
Paradisio

08-24-05, 05:34 PM
No, I mean I concentrate to see the school... and it is magical... but I see it is from a school of magic I know nothing about (IE not one of the regular school.)

I also went blind for looking at an antimagic field with detect magic on.

Does Pro #1 outweigh Cons #1-15?
If yes, then you're fine.
If not...consider talking to the DM or the other players to change things. You should always try the diplomatic approach to see if the situation can be changed before just walking out.
It sounds like you guys are on pretty good terms (or at least there's no evidence of the contrary), so if you do end up leaving, try not to be hostile about it. If you say that you won't be able to play for awhile because you're going to be busy with some project (just for example), then it's easier later to continue OOG relationships with the group, as well as join back in if you want to at some point.
Very rarely is "This game sucks! I'm leaving! *stomp stomp slam!*" received well :P

Exactly Jagyr, which is why I am so apprehensive on leaving... I DM a group for them on the day before as well, further increasing problems if I stomp out.

There's a good excuse then.

"Hey you guys, I decided I'm going to try focusing on my DMing more. I'll have to leave this game, but it'll give me more time to make my game better for you guys. You can use my character as an NPC if you want."
etc.

incredible... incredible.

I don't really understand how you're still having fun, but if that's the case... I guess you could keep on playing in that malarky.

With the con list being that long, the only answer you should get is no, you should not keep playing. Quit the game, quit it now, look for new players and DM's that don't suck (cause I read you other thread, and these guys suck). And start over. There will always be cons, but if you can't find more than 3 reason why you should stay, then it should be obvious to you that you should go.

You live in Houston. You should have no problems finding more people to play with. After reading your other threads (and the fact that you had to make that many threads about them), my only advice is to kick each of them where it hurts on your way out.

Just kidding about that last part. :D But I wouldn't stay.

It is at this point that I must call troll. I find it impossible to believe that anyone would stick with a game with a con list that long. I also noticed that at least one of the items on your CON list came only after I mentioned it in the rules questions forum.

Really. Have you ever posted about having a good time? I think you're just jerking us all around now.

That said, in the unlikely chance you're not, get the freak out! Geeze boy, you're like a maschoicst who dosen't know when to say no.

I would probably leave it for awhile, but DEFINATELY [sp?] tell your DM why you don't feel like playing anymore. Explain that you find his house rulings and 'off the fly' rules a bit difficult to enjoy, or whatever. If you leave without explaining, he probably won't get any better, and may come to the wrong conclusion.

You know that Movie, Armageddon - where there is an asteroid that is going to hit the earth, and the one character says, "It's an asteroid, Mr. President, the size of Texas."

Well, the asteroid is my hatred and the earth is your DM. You're the President, and these boards are Texas.

What is keeping you from leaving? I cannot think of anyone else around here who has had such a crap game.

I'd be agreeing with ShadowDragon if you weren't so consistant.

Your game sessions are a tragedy and a travesty.

The only way you are having fun is because you like the people you game with.

Find another group.

If I was in Houston, I would find you, and pull you bodily from that game, as if saving you from a burning building, and I would be awarded a medal by the mayor for doing so, him pronouncing me a "Fine, Upstanding Citizen."

In the words of the Amityville Horror House, "Get Out."

Quit the game/group. seriously.
Use the connections board to find another group in your city.

You are free to call me whatever you like, but I have never posted a list such as this before this. I posted I had a good time in this thread, and previous ones, should I have made a thread at one point saying "I'm having a good time playing this game, what am I to do?!"

This forum is about problems, not bragging about a good game.

The only reason I have stayed so long is because everyone I play with is a friend.

You are free to contact me on aim for any kind of discussion, I am not a troll.

Umm...

Okay, if you're a HUGE Halo fan, I guess it might be cool.

But a D&D or a D20 Modern game based on HALO sounds like the absolute stupidest thing in the world to me. On top of that, your DM has some kind of creature ripped right off of "Star Gate: SG1" growing in you?

I mean, this campaign just sounds DUMB!
ShadowDragon8685

08-26-05, 12:09 PM
Murrdox, a Halo-based game is actually pretty sweet. Me and my DM are playing one right now. Of course, we're using the SR3 ruleset, which handles things MUCH more nicely than d20.
Bane

08-26-05, 12:47 PM
Well, if you already DM for the same group of guys, and they still play with him too, then there's little chance of a player revolt. I would recommend getting busy. If there's a good reason why you only have time for one D&D game, they probably won't have a problem with you pulling out as a player. My suggestions for what to do with this DM comprise a fairly comprehensive list of felonies, but you might be able to convince a jury that it's justifiable homicide.

Like I said, if you like Halo, it would probably be fun :)

I... uhh... well I honestly don't understand why people LIKE Halo.

Personally, I thought Halo was a really lame game with little to no originality... and I can think of at least a dozen sci-fi settings that I would find more interesting to play in. But that's just me of course!

Not to my knowledge. Actually, my idea might not work even if he's 21 or older. Is absinthe legal?

As do I... The problem was, he refused to use the modern/futuristic rule books. He used the fantasy books for a futuristic campaign.

so your dm is running a d20 modern campaign using d&d core books-thats good! ;) ive got to say, he/she is very cheap. the rules sets of both use d20 but some of the things are different!

Quit...no stay...err, I mean quit...yeah, that's it...quit...but staying might be good...oh gosh, I don't know. This is the silliest post I've read in a long time (yet, I'll admit the goofy headline did successfully lure me into reading the post in the first place...good job). Paradisio, I want you to go to the nearest hospital and buy a spine, you timid little jellyfish. Do you really think that a bunch of forum members who don't know you are better equiped than you are in deciding whether you should continue to game with your friends? Come on man, toughen up...make your own decisions.

I have to disagree. I can easily see how you'd still be in a game like that--it can also be really hard when it's your friends. You don't want to insult them or anything, and yet, and yet... they suck at D&D.

I'd advise that you do leave and find a new game--shouldn't be too hard--but none of this shooting your DM in the face with a hammer. If you want to continue DMing, then yes, that can be a good excuse, but if you'd rather not, then either tell the truth or tell them you don't have time anymore, depending on how truthful you're feeling. Just remember, getting out and playing in a new game is a great way to meet NEW friends, too. And perhaps later on some of your old friends will get in a game full of good players and discover what they've been missing.

Man, I feel sorry for ya, But like everyone said Get out. If the game is not going the way you think it should, Just leave. Hell I leave in Joshua which is like 200 or 300 miles from you, And i found people to play with that live nearby. It's not that hard to find other people.

Five times as many cons as pros isn't a good sign.
True, but many Cons are specific examples whereas the pros are very broad. Some degree of fun refer to a lot of things.

Also, it is easier to find specific, citable faults. "Good" examples are harder to pin down.
