That party member has the feat Font of Life (heroes of horror). DM says Font of Life doesn't apply to it. I think its pretty clear cut it should. The first line of Font of Life says "You're life force is strong enough to make you highly resistant to all forms of energy drain and level loss". Can anyone see any reason why you wouldn't get an immediate save? |
| TheChilliGod02-22-07, 10:29 PM | There is a reason, though I am not certain at the authenticity of it. The Fell Drain feat (by itself, ignoring Lightning Bolt for a sec) doesn't actually list a Save DC for the Font of Life feat to make, hence it could be considered that there is no saving throw for it, meaning that it bestows the negative level automatically no matter what, and the Font of Life can't stop that. This argument could potentially be countered in this specific instance by the fact that the feat's augmentation to the Lightning Bolt spell does give the lightning bolt's Save DC to avoid (Technically, the feat augments the spell, and the two effects are part of each other). Which again could be countered by that anyone who is damaged by a Fell Drain gets a negative level, and that the feat's effect and the spell's effect are separate, meaning that there being a save for Lightning Bolt doesn't make there a save for Fell Drain, if one is called for. Not to mention that it doesn't really help when against Magic Missile and like spells. It's this kind of really on-the-edge interpretation of the rules that would require some sort of ruling from the DM. Which is the guy making the argument against you, I'm afraid. You'll probably have to put up with his ruling. Hope I helped. |
