Does the hero character provoke an attack of opportunity from the flanking monsters even though the monster being tripped is 15 feet away? :lightbulb |
| TheChilliGod11-13-06, 02:30 AM | ...Improved Trip allows you to make trip attacks without provoking attacks of opportunity. And tripping with a weapon designed for it doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity anyway. You only provoke attacks of opportunity if unarmed and without the Improved Trip feat. And even then, only the enemy that you are attempting to trip is allowed to make an attack of opportunity; nobody else gets the chance. No matter which way you look at it, you don't provoke an attack of opportunity from the flanking monsters. Edit-Except with whips, of course. |

You do not provoke an attack of opportunity for using a reach weapon while threatened. However, you do provoke an attack of opportunity for using a whip while threatened because the text of the weapon (PHB, pg 121) specifically states that, "Using a whip provokes an attack of opportunity as if you had used a ranged weapon." The important thing to remember when using a whip is to keep out of the reach of your opponents. |
