OK as a general practice in our games we have allowed theurge to progress w/ their domain spells as domain spells seemed to be tied into the spell level progression of a cleric.
Recently on of our PCs felt that it was over powering to give this class the additional spells for domain. now the question of is that correct has come into play. in order to appease this player we have considered resticting domain to spells that the player could have accessed from his cleric levels, much to the dismay of the theurge player. Do anyone know if there is a correct answer for this question or is it best left up to the players and the Gm.

Overpowered Mystic Theurge is an Oxymoron. Tell them not to try and bring the class down any lower than it already is.

That being said, IMO the Theurge would continue gaining the Domain Spells.

He gains the domain spells at each spell level, including the spell levels he gets access to through Theurge advancement.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. It's a normal part of a cleric's spell progression. It's no different from a specialist wizard's extra spell per day (in fact it's almost the exact same thing). Also, I have a really hard time beleiving that, of all of the things a Cleric gets that their 1 domain spell per level per day go singled out as over powering. A Theurge's main advantage is flexabilty so I fail to see how eliminating their most limited spell selection is going to change class balance.

What is the complaining player playing? It sounds like he's jealous. Jsut because he's being shown up doesn't mean the other class is unbalanced, especially if it's only one player doing the complaining. If he thinks the class is that badly balanced then just give him the opportunity to play a theurge (they'll say no, 95% of the time).

WHAT??

I read this correctly?

Your party said, that the Domains are too mighty for the Theurge?

The Theurge has to split into two classes. That means, he could never get the spells like a normal wizard or cleric of the same level. The Theurge gets his mighty spells at least three lvls later than a wizard- or a cleric-only-build. Until you reach level 10 to 15 the Theurge is definitly not overpowered. And then he can cast some good spells.

The domains are powers, which are granted by the god of the Theurge and are a normal part of this class. And the Cleric gets only Turn Undead, which can give him more power because of some Feats. If you ban the domains for the Theurge, you should ban it for a normal Cleric too and thats ridiculous in my opinion.
