| gellor02-15-07, 09:56 AM | I have a dwarf I dominiated in an adventure, two questions. 1. Does he gain XP ? 2. Does he take XP from our pool? I don't think he does because I believe he should be considered a cohort. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

I would definitely not use the cohort rule since that is a special rule related to the leadership feat. Two ways to view it: 1: Spellcaster used a daily resource (spell slot for dominate) to good effect and that should not reduce xp in any manner and the dominated bad guy should not get any xp whatsoever. Similar to a spellcaster using Summon Monster or some other spell to help overcome an encounter. 2: (My personal view); Due to the nature of the spell used, you have made all future encounters easier by having an extra body in the mix and as such there should be some kind of reduction to xp (usually just some % rather than treating the NPC as a full blown extra party member). The only time I've had to use this is when a spellcaster uses gate, planar binding or dominate to get a "long term" ally for the cost of one spell. Short term allies that are brought in via Summon Monster or Summon Nature's Ally are different because they only pop up for 1 combat due to the short duration. 3: Treat the dominated dwarf as a full blown ally and he gets a cut of the xp as if he were a party member. |
