Dragon affinity for Swift Wing PrC [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-06-07, 02:01 PM I just started a game with a Cleric of Kelemvor. Due to the nature of her deity I styled her all in black full plate, silver bastard sword, and black cloak. I jokingly refer to her as the "emo cleric", although she is not at all depressed but merely calm and deteched...just skating the line of emotionless.

Initially I was heading into the Contemplative PrC but stumbled upon the Swift Wing PrC in Dragon Magic and decided it fit her even better. Now, I have to choose what dragon my deity might associate himself with, which determines what energy resistance/immunity I get as well as what style of wings I get.

I am having a lot of trouble deciding. What dragon would Kelemvor associate with? I searched every dragon type available and with the alignment restriction I can choose from:

True Dragons - Blue, Green, Bronze, Gold, and Silver
Other types - Amythyst, Sapphire, Emerald, Pyroclastic, Radiant, Magma Drake, and Storm Drake.

Goal and personality wise, I'm thinking gold or radiant are a good fit to the deity (not even sure about that. What do you think?), but this is where I hit a bump.

Aesthetically speaking, considering her temperment and garb, I picture sparkling golden wings on her and go, "uhhhhh, not so sure about that" Which is silly, I know, but things like that matter to me.

The other issue here is the energy resistance/immunity. The question seems to be, is having anything other than fire worth it?

Any thoughts would be immensely helpful. Thanks.

07-06-07, 03:33 PM Thats a though question. Most dragons are too passionate to be associated with a deity like Kelemvor.

Thematically, Amethyst Dragons would fit best and because of their odd energy immunity/breath weapon you will (as far as I see it) end up with fire resistence.

But generally every dragon who is only 1 step away from your and from Kelemvors alignment should work so choose a gold/radiant dragon if the look is important to you.

07-06-07, 04:59 PM Dragons have a deity, starts with a C.. Chronepsis? Anyhoo, its moniker is "The Watcher". Prestige Class associated with it is the Dispassionate Watcher of C-. Essentially this draconic god simply watches and chronicles. You'll find both in the Draconomicon. Any Good or Neutral dragon would find some form of affinity here.

Not to suggest you follow C-. Rather, I thought the comment about dragons being "too passionate" was a bit off.

Bronze or silver wings would go well with the black plate :D A crisis of faith resulting in an alignment shift could make Black a decent choice as well.

As far as energy resistance: fire is far and away the most common form of energy encountered in the game, and therefore the most common form of energy resistance. Given the other, far more interesting charcter-driven motivations you have for selecting your draconic affinity, I suggest you not ruin it by metagaming and worrying whether it's "worth it" to have something other than fire resistance. Heck, if I were you DM I'd put you into situations where your energy resistance would come in handy, regardless of type.
