Jaster_Morano 08-01-06, 03:24 AM	I was thinking of making a dragonhunter as my new character, but I'm not sure what class(es) to use. Obviously the Ranger is a good choice with Favoured Enemy, and the Fighter has the option of Feats, but are there any other good choices? Are there any good multiclass choices? What Feats are a MUST for a dragonhunter? Any help would be appreciated.
Jutter 08-01-06, 03:27 AM	I'd say get yourself some lightning reflexes ;) Draconomicon contains a Dragonslayer prestige class. Nifty things, like lightning reflexes as a bonus feat and resistance to all energy damage. What books are you allowed to use?
Jaster_Morano 08-01-06, 03:39 AM	I can use any of the books and I did have a look at the dragonslayer class in the Draconomicon. Its pretty cool. I was also looking at the Vassal of Bahamut in the Book of Exalted Deeds as the option. But it has an annoyance of Feat prereqs and the issue of adding spells. Maybe a mod of the Vassal of Bahamut would be good. Any suggestions on Vassal of Bahamut? Suggestions on race, base class or feat choices? Lightning reflexes is definitley worth considering
Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi 08-01-06, 07:51 AM	I'd advise the Wyrmslayer variant Paladin. Basically, you trade out Knowledge (Royalty and Nobility) [or something like that] for Knowledge (Arcana), and you trade in Remove Disease (x/week) for Resist Energy (x/day). Also free to multiclass with Ranger so long as 1st favored enemy is Dragons. Races of the Dragon and Draconimicon have a fair bit for this area. I own Draconimicon, and I'd say the Dragonslayer PrC is along the lines of what you're looking for. There's also the Dragon Stalker PrC, if you want a different sort of flavor. That one, however, strikes me as better for an NPC, with many abilities being "against dragons only." For race, I'd recommend Dragonborn. CON is very nice when battling dragons. Though the -2 DEX will hurt your reflex save against breath weapons. If you go Wyrmslayer, you could consider a Spellscale. +2 CHA, -2 DEX. That extra CHA will boost all your saves thanks to Divine Grace. This will completely offset the slightly lowered Reflex save. Good luck.
Shadowfast 08-01-06, 08:34 AM	I think ranger and fighter are good but have you considered the advantages of a rogue? I played a very average rogue but my evation and improved evasion proved invauable against the scaled race. Not only that but I ended up slaying the red dragon my group fought because of landing a decent sneak attack. Flanking rules! Also their are roleplaying reasons rogues would naturally want to gert to the treasure involved in dragons. Plus rogues skills in sneaking, using magical devices, bluffing and disguise could help you get through many a sticky situation. Maybe a little boring after what has been said but I wanted to add it in the name of core gamers. Plus my knowledge of D&D is too limited I guess.
Azezel 08-01-06, 08:44 AM	I'd suggest you start off as a Ranger (Favoured Enemy: Dragons), pick up a level or two of Barbarian if you wish, or stay straight Ranger and then at level six go for the Leviathan Hunter PRC from Stormwrack. The PRC has a number of nifty abilities. Straight off the bat you get a bonus to all knowledge checks about Dragons (And a few other nasties), and if you kill one, you can wear it's teeth on a neclace and gain +2 to AC against Dragons. Later on you also get extra damage Vs Dragons and Imunity to Fear - which alone is worth the price of admission when you look at the old dragon's fear inducing abilities.

What books are you allowed to use? or if you don't like the knight in shining armor type of thing there is also one called dragon stalker in the draconomicon I think
Derren S. 08-01-06, 11:11 AM	The problem with the Dragon Stalker is that this PRC soley depends on sneak attack. When you can't sneak attack (Gemstone of Fortification) this class is hosed.
Rivelstraz 08-01-06, 02:19 PM	Dragon Slayer has full BAB, full caster progression and a nice damage bonus against dragons (1 point per level) and TWO good saves. The prereqs are dodge and iron will, two weak feats, but well, doable. Then we got these 'dragonslayer' feats*: -Enemy of the dragons gives a bonus to attack and CL. -Dragon hunter gives CA bonus, besides bonus to spells. -Defense against dragons gives evasion (even with heavy armor?) and a big bonus to saves against dragons (half your level) -Bane of the dragons increases the critical bonus of the weapon. Requires Dragon striker, the weakest 'dragonslayer' feats. Another feat we could use to get damage bonus against dragons is favoured enemy (requires at least ranger level 1), and favoured power attack (extra damage if using power attack against favoured enemy) So, ranger 1 is a must, to get +5 damage bonus(with improved favoured feat), then as much level in dragon slayer as possible (to get +1 damage per level) and then pick any of those dragon slaying feats. *The names may be a bit off. I got the Spanish version and slayer, striker, killer, etc. can be translated in many ways.
