From what I would guess, the magazine nor the classes aren't quite Wizards TM, and my own DM-to-be (I'm DM'ing right now, but wish to play again after a while) isn't too fond of random PrC's. Kind of contemplating a flying character, an Aerial Avenger (Dragon #319) looks mighty nifty there. |
| SnowbearK04-22-05, 04:15 AM | Actually, the status of Dragon Magazine has changed now. It is now an Official source, so the PrCs, monsters, races, etc. are canon material -- though not Core material (meaning they are optional, but official, kind of like the "Races of X" and "Complete Whatnot" books). Though I would take that with about a pound of salt, seeing as some of the PrCs and racial progressions are waaaaaay out there. |

I've noticed that in a few of the issues, yes :D Thanks, this is very handy information. Will safe my PC an Improved Flight feat he can better opt for 'Roll With It' or 'Improved Natural Weapon'. |
| Draco Strang04-22-05, 07:32 AM | I let the Force Mage (Dragon 323, I think?) fly in my campaign. It's a pretty cool PrC. An NPC and PC both have it. Most of them are very well balanced, as they are official WOTC material, as noted by SnowbearK. |
| weasel fierce04-22-05, 01:30 PM | To me, "official" just means it was written by some dude at WOTC instead of some dude somewhere else. I generally dont like prestige classes period, so eh ;) |
| SnowbearK04-22-05, 11:04 PM | Actually, the articles are mostly written by "fans" (usually freelance writers, ex-WotC staff, etc) & Paizo Publishing staff, along with the occasional article directly from staff at WotC. Official means they've been "run through" some kind of quality control involving WotC R&D staff. Now to what extent, the depth of the QC, and whatnot, we don't know for sure. Some a very nicely done, some are utter nonsense (barring all April issues from this statement), and some are just...well...why?!?!? :) (bear in mind I haven't looked through a Dragon or Dungeon Magazine since last year...at some point I'll find the time to actually open the stack that's been piling up from my subscriptions) |
