| Levism8411-12-04, 07:45 AM | Ok... 1) We were all set for making the world a brighter and better place, until some devils AND demons started messing things up. 2) We kicked butt and began rebuilding society, blah blah blah... 3) Dragons attacked in mass the entire continent and little remains of the world we worked so hard to perserve and build. 4) The dragons in this game have been "spiced up" so most have character classes... and I am the lowest level character at level 12... 5) Remaining factions pitted against eachother (Dwarf/Gnome) vs (Elf/Halfling), no one likes humans anymore. 6) DM keeps emphisizing the importance of the campaign being "Kingdom's of Man". 7) The entire group is wondering why dragon's ate our plot. Help? Our group is a little lost and I am just wondering what others would do when big scarry things that breath stuff and eat whole villages come a hunting your way? (Although, in all fairness to the dragons, they only attacked because an enemy sea-fairing nation sent ships to the islands where the dragons normally keep to themselves, flying the flags of every singe nation--except their own of course--and attacked the dragons for no reason.) Insights welcomed. ~Rain~ |

| Lincoln Hills11-12-04, 05:33 PM | Tell the DM that all your characters have decided to retire, and ask to start a new campaign set in the age after these "Kingdoms of Man" have finished defeating the various dragons and fiends that are littering the landscape. |
| Derren S.11-12-04, 06:07 PM | Sounds like a nice plot. A bit apocalyptic, but that are the times where great heroes are made. |
| Morwen11-12-04, 06:12 PM | (Although, in all fairness to the dragons, they only attacked because an enemy sea-fairing nation sent ships to the islands where the dragons normally keep to themselves, flying the flags of every singe nation--except their own of course--and attacked the dragons for no reason.) Since most dragons are fairly intelligent, they'd probably notice the fact that all flags except that of one particular nation was sported by the ships, and either assume or attempt to find out if that nation was actually behind the attack :) |
| Occams_Razor11-12-04, 06:25 PM | You should do what your enemies do when you are hunting them... go to ground and ensconce yourselves in fortifications. That should convince your DM that this is abit against the spirit of the game. WHy are the dragons hunting you? Have you killed any of them? Find evidence of the deception and show it to the dragons. If they are good, they will make reparations and not hunt you any more, if they are evil, they will at least want revenge on those who truly attakced them and therefore will leave you alone while they go after this enemy nation, giving you time to prepare for their return. That's all I can think of right now, but I don't think your DM is quite off his rocker, he's just pushing the envelope and creating a truly epic campaign (with sub-epic characters, but hey, who's counting anyway? :)) |
| Levism8411-13-04, 03:46 AM | As far as the dragons go, i guess only the chromatic dragons attacked, and the old spokes man for the group (a charismatic rogue with incredible diplomacy powers and a potion of glibness) attempted to talk the dragons out of eating the town the character's had built up and he got almost a perfect diplomacy check (thinking about +45 diplomacy check) and the dragon "shrugged its shoulders and ate him." Granted it was a red dragon, but still... Not to mention that most of the established governments have been destroyed, we are on a journey right now to restore to life a really nice NPC leader we all loved and adored. The only druid of the land (an older character nolonger being played by the PC) was killed when dragon's attacked his grove, but he was able to kill a few of their number himself. Now the dragon's have mostly returned to their island homes, and everything is in ruins. A racial war is brewing between the dwarf/gnome faction and the elf/halfling faction. The humans are hated all around and there are serious rifts between science and magic. (Dwarves feel the elf's anti-technology promotion and human leadership lead to the dragon disaster, while elves feel all technology is evil and humans are dumb.) *Pulls out hair (Ooo, look... material components...) ~Rain~ |
| MortalPlague11-13-04, 04:19 AM | Your DM clearly has read the "Dawning of a New Age" trilogy by Jean Rabe. ;) (A read I thoroughly enjoyed, but would never sic on my players) |
| ShadowDragon868511-13-04, 08:06 AM | Ask the DM to please create a new campaign, one with a much more stable geopollitical clime. The player's acomplishments should not be wiped from the map because the DM wants them to be killing dragons, and the players want to play Sim D&D. There's plenty of opportunity for raising a town for adventurers. |
| Vanigo11-13-04, 05:17 PM | (Although, in all fairness to the dragons, they only attacked because an enemy sea-fairing nation sent ships to the islands where the dragons normally keep to themselves, flying the flags of every singe nation--except their own of course--and attacked the dragons for no reason.) Step 1: Get a large mallet. Step 2: Carve "Dragons are not imbeciles" into the head. Step 3: BEAT YOUR DM TO DEATH WITH IT. This should solve all your problems. |
| Lord Schpungus11-13-04, 05:40 PM | Sounds amazingly wonderful! I would love to play in a campaign like that. Count your lucky stars for getting such an epic backdrop, start playing smart, and stop whining when there's a plot twist! I would probably attempt to seek out the metallic dragons for their help/knowledge etc, or seek out celestials for the same. |
| Shard of Suzail11-13-04, 07:01 PM | It`s about time the dragons struck back. I was getting a bit tired of them being picked off as if they were simple wyverns. I bet the dragons are sitting about on their island telling stories of the battle...which is exactly what the heroes usually do when they kill a dragon. I think a campaign a bit like "Terminator" where the remains of civilisation are terrorised by dragons, bent on genocide sounds great. Again, a bit like the film "Reign of Fire", but much better. I`d keep to the Terminator feel. I like the idea of the flying HK's being replaced by dragons, with heroic wizards in the rubble trying to shoot the beasts down while clinging to the back of a speeding wagon. A really good time to have paladins as gritty leaders of the resistance too. You could do something like the matrix as well, i imagine. Or even stargate, if you had heroes going planar to find allies for their apocalyptic world. V.Cool. |
| Phrennzy11-13-04, 09:32 PM | Simple. Get all the leaders of the different races together and explain to them that the Dragons/Demons/Devils are the biggest threat and that we should all unite to fight THEM, and then we can go back to petty bickering. And then when they launch the massive attack, sneak into their rooms and steal all their stuff. Thus begins the age of Man. |
| Derren S.11-14-04, 04:14 AM | Or rater bring up a lame excuse why you can't take part in the attack and watch the other nations die horribly in battle with the dragos while you sit back and split the new territorry between yourself and the dragons  |
