Dread Necro Concerns [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-17-07, 10:47 PM I am playing a Dread Necromancer with the corpse crafter and deadly chill feats. My DM ruled that the feat stacks with the DNs special ability that improves undead (I forget what it is called). I killed a shadow dragon and animated it as a skeleton. This was all well and dandy until it started mowing through enemies like nobodies business here is what a full attack looks like:

Bite: attack: +17 Damage: 1d8+1d6+9

2 claws: A: +14 D: 1d6+1d6+9

2 Wings: A +14 D: 1d4+1d6+9

My DM hasn't said anything, yet, but I am worried that my unliving buddy is stealing the show.

Any advice?

06-17-07, 10:58 PM that's actually not a terribly good full-attack, depending on your level. that'd help a bunch if we knew what level your character was.

06-17-07, 11:10 PM If you're afraid your fossilized friend is steaing the show, get rid of 'im. Nothing says you HAVE to use it. :)

(though if that thing is mowing down enemies, I'm guessing 3rd level tops?)

06-18-07, 12:37 AM What level are you? I have a dread necromancer among my current players, and his skeletons are definitely not tearing through the opposition better than the other players. Are you, perhaps, low level, and killing this dragon was a complete fluke? Barring that, I find this a bit odd...

06-18-07, 04:49 AM Just have the dragon stick to guarding you, if it's stealing the show. Nothing wrong with holding some of your forces in reserve, and you can then send them in if a TPK threatens.

I like that idea.

I am loath to just get rid of it because it was very hard won. That shadow dragon was the toughest fight of the game, up to that point, and it's still in the top five.

I am the highest level person (8th) in our group of six (everyone else is 7th or 6th). Our DM has a tendency to throw lots (and I mean LOTS) of weak enemies at us, and then have very challenging boss fights.

06-18-07, 01:51 PM Your DM was half right. The HP bonus from corpsecrafter and Undead Mastery stack, but not the strength bonus. And don't worry about how much damage the dragon's doing. In another level or two you'll have more minions doing more damage.
