| AgentRoo01-09-06, 11:13 PM | Making a Dread Necromancer for a new game, and I need some advice. Game starts at 3rd level, and I'll be a human magic-blooded (from Dragon 306), without the extra spell-like abilities from the race (me and the DM both agreed to drop them, as we thought it was a bit too much for a +0 LA template that had no penalties). I know I'll be going straight Dread Necro, as I want that Lichdom at 20th level ASAP. But I also want to amass a large army of undead (as I'm trying to reclaim my father's old kingdom, which was snatched away years ago). So I'm trying to find all the spells, feats and magic items I can to optimize my army. So far, I'm going for: Mother Cyst feat from Libris Mortis (especially useful for the Necrotic Tumor spell to make a separate legion of living people, if they are spellcasters, so much the better); The Undead Leadership feat from Libris Mortis, for obvious reasons. Planning on cohort being a Necropolitan Cleric/Wizard/True Necromancer (possibly with one of the elemental domains, for the added ability to rebuke/command that elemental type). The Rod of Undead Mastery also from Libris Mortis to double my controlled undead (a question about this is below). The General of Undeath spell from Magic of Faerun, taken as my 16th level Advanced Learning abilities. Add 10/level to my commanded undead, perfect. But does it apply only to Animate Undead, rebuked undead, or both? Further more, I'll be attempting to rebuke/command as many spawn-creating undead as possible. I continue to scour other books, but I'm not really sharp-eyed, and frequently miss some things, so any help is appreciated. (Anything from any source is good, as long as it grants control of more undead, or the like. DM is partial to WotC sources, though he's been known to allow others.) Regarding the Rod of Undead Mastery: Being a Dread Necromancer, I add my Cha modifier to my base amount of HD of undead per level. My question is how is it calculated with the rod. For example, Animate Dead for me normally grants control of 4 HD+Cha mod/level. Would it become 8+Cha mod/level, or just 4+Cha mod x 2? [EDIT] Clarity/format |
