Name him Justaclone. Or Exactlyalike. Or Yetanutha! Or Ditto, or Yetagain, or Samizdat, or Here'zanothawun, or Frikkendarkenelvenkomenouttenthewallsa, or Ludicrous Quantities, or What a Surprise, or Flooded Market, or Totally Original Concept, or Spam, or Once Upon A Time Mine Was A Dark And Mysterious Race Yet Now Our Multitudes Darken Your Surface Horizon (Ouatmwadamrynomdysh for short. :smirk: )

I'm sorry, Laucian. My sarcasm was loud and boorish: but as far as I can tell, the Underdark is now totally empty, since every drow in existence rebelled against his culture and religion and ran off to join a party of surface adventurers. The only guy who still lives in Erelhei-Cinlu (or Menzoberranzan) is the janitor: he likes the peace and quiet they have there, these days. :chuckle:

There was a Dragon Magazine some time ago that had an entire section on Drow names. I will see if I can look it up and find the article for you.

We have a person, 17 years of age... Whenever his characters die (which is often, because he charges into battle instead of waiting for the party, and loves to block doorways so the other (and often more effective fighters) can't get in, he asks to make a drow character. And yes, you can guess which class and alignment he wants to be everytime. We thought he was joking, but he's dead serious and is becoming annoying...

Anyway, it reminds me of this comic (http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript?SK=44), especially right at the bottom there...

Well, just tell him he killed all of the drow surface walkers by continually tossing them into battle and dying and he has to wait 200 years for a fresh supply to bubble up from the Underdark. But seriously, goodly drow don't walk the Realms very often. I say this in all hypocrisy because currently I am playing a N/G drow fighter/bard. Her beloved father/weaponsmaster/sensei (all one person he he) was brutally slain by his own family in an act of treachery and for no good reason (/shrug....drow females....typical). She bottled up all that anger and aggression and trained in Melee Magthere anyways, despite (and probably because of) the annoyance to her mother and sisters. After she finished first in her class, her family welcomed her with open arms. An'tari saw through the facade and, being completely revolted and sickened, roamed the Underdark in search of herself, and to come to terms with the disgusting reality of her people. So, she's not an exile, or a good-hearted rebel. She's a ****** off teenager in drow terms, and is conflicted and confused. She runs away, gets lost, accidentally comes across the cave to the surface, and prays to her goddess that the surface world can offer her what her own people could not.

Now that was just off the top of my head. I would say that if this player could come up with enough story to back up a C/G male drow ranger every single time he dies, then let him. If he can't come up with a good reason, perhaps it will inspire him to tell you a story about some OTHER character he has been thinking up.

We don't allow him to play Drow. Period. It's entirely off-limits. Especially in my campaigns where the industrialists have been funnelling smog and other coal pollutants into the Underdark, leaving the race very sickly and barely surviving.

One time, we gave in an let him play the Drow CG/Rgr. It was a two person party. He was the ranger, I was plain old Elven bard. We walk into a room with skeletons. Four of them. We're level 1. My character goes, "There's too many! We need to retreat!" His response? "RAAAAAAAAR!" and he bolts into the room. I tried throwing a couple potions at him, but he died, and my character ran from the room as quickly as her elven legs would carry her. He called me "coward" out-of-character. I just smiled and said "Who's character is alive?"

So, after that, he started playing CG human rangers... that all suffer from albinism, but somehow get great tans... We've been trying to show him tactics, but he loves the 'kick down the door and rack up the biggest monster kills' strategy.

One time, he played a CG HALF-Drow character in our game. We forced him to be a sorcerer, and gave him wonderful ranged spells to play with... to keep him in the back. He goes "RAAAAR!" and charges into battle, almost dying if not for the work of the fighter I'm playing. Then he starts chucking alchemist fire everywhere, killing off the guides we were supposed to be protecting...

If he doesn't learn, don't FORCE him to do something. Cause then he will just charge to spite you all. Instead, work with him and his play style. Perhaps a centaur barbarian would be more suitable, or a dwarven battlerager. Something that THRIVES on the onslaught. Just a suggestion. I won't give you the "if he ruins the game, ditch him" attitude because he might be a close friend, relative, what have you. Been there, done that. Just help him tailor his character to his play style, if that's all he knows how to do.

Yeah, I understand completely. The sorcerer thing was literally the 14th character he's had to make. The first eight, all we would do is facepalm and ask him why. His response, "Because I'm not a coward." He's on character number 17 now. He's playing a regular elf Warmage. He's been very good and useful. But he's now starting to order us, OOCly, to stay out his character's way. We're a hair's breadth away from "The Lecture".

But I'm seriously diverting this thread now, and I apologize. We'll take it to PMs, if need be.

Drow names? I don't have a book on 'em. Sorry. I posted the comic because it reminded me where the thread was heading. :)

Seriously, the comic was funny, I am LMAO going from 1-43 in order.

Hey, some of us played Drow back when the original "Unearthed Arcana" came out in the 80's. He was a magic user/thief and had zero good in him at all.

So, after 3.0 came out, did Drizzt ditch one of the scimitars for a Kukri? In 2nd Edition you could use two longswords, but lately that doesn't work so well.

Just please don't add all sorts of meaningless apostrophes in.

M'Z'x'x'xd? Fr'shr? How about ''''''''?

A new player in my group decided to play the stereotype goodly drow once, we all abused him so horribly that when eventually i killed him, he never came back.
He spent the game telling off my drow repeatedly for giving our kind a bad reputation, until he got badly wounded by doing the hero thing and charging into a fight ignoring our tactics and i offered to cast a healing spell. In fact, I applied a shocking grasp to his face. My explaination to the horrified party who had been sprayed with the gore of his exploding head....."Whoops"
