A Thousand Faces (Su): At 13th level, a druid gains the ability to change her appearance at will, as if using the alter self spell, but only while in her normal form.

I would like to know , wich are the differences between the spell and the class feature.

The spell has a duration of 10min/level. Has the class feature the same duration?

What does it means?: "...but only while in her normal form"

He's talking about using the ability when you aren't polymorphed?

I'm sorry but I don't really understand this.

Thanks a lot

Cheers

I would assume 2 things. One, if it is 'at will', then duration does not matter. As soon as the druid feels the effect wearing off, she re-casts it (or whatever.)

Since the druid has the wild shape, I'm guessing that is what normal form means. Not wild shaping. As for invisibility, polymorphing, I can't find anything that changes that, so it must just mean in human, elf, whatever form. That help?

Yes.

It means the class feature can only be used while in her normal/standard form, eg human form for humans and dwarf form for dwarves.

Among other formchanging effects, yes.

Answers are bolded.

Basically, it works exactly as the spell with the exceptions mentioned. So yes, I believe you have to cast it so you don't have it 'permanently on'.

As per the errata "A Thousand Faces" now references Disguise Self rather than Alter Self.

Shame really.

Except it's not an illusion, so it works like alter self anyway, but is limited to cosmetic changes only.

In other words, it now works as the name has always implied -- no more adding wings or a third arm.

Yes.

actually, that's purely upto how you wish to interpret it. As much as the rules have less contradictions, I'm begininng to realize, more and more, that the 3.5 rules are incomplete, and need interpretation.

A supernatural ability, at will ability that functions like alter self, but doesn't have a caster level or duration. Because of that, 10min/level means nothing, because it doesn't say "use your druid level as your caster level for this ability"

It's really quite moot, because it wouldn't mean all that much in the ways of mechanics, unless you ruled that it lasted 10 minutes, and you happened to get caught offguard exactly 100 rounds after you last used it, and needed to spend a standard action to maintain it.

Thank you very much for your answers.

I am agree with Shiikeras and Sphyre about the duration of this ability.

As I see, A druid of 13th level with this ability, it's hard to understand that has a limited duration of this ability.

Reading the description of Disguise self

Disguise Self
Illusion (Glamer)
Level: Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1, Trickery 1
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 10 min./level (D)

You make yourself—including clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment—look different. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your body type. Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person.

The spell does not provide the abilities or mannerisms of the chosen form, nor does it alter the perceived tactile (touch) or audible (sound) properties of you or your equipment.

If you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a +10 bonus on the Disguise check.

A creature that interacts with the glamer gets a Will save to recognize it as an illusion.

It seems that if you change a new form you are unrecognizable, and only can make a Desguise check if you create a disguise with this spell, with the exception of the Glamer.

Is it true? or I am misinterpreting

In my opinion, A 13th level druid with this ability couldn't make disguises with this ability, because It has no sense that a druid was making desguises like an illusionist.
I see a Druid changing his form to interact with the other races to preserve the balance.
Only a Glamer could recognize a Druid with the new appearance.
