We're currently in a city and my druid felt in love with another char. in the game. I'm playing a true neutral druid.

Now another player said to me:
A druid should sleep in the nature, not in the inn with his beloved one...

Do you think this is correct because i think it's nonsense. A druid may be a nature guy but that doesn't prevent him from sleeping over in city inn's with his girlfriend does it?

Well I would think that this is acceptable, as long as it keps the balance of nature, although he wouldn't do it too much.

However, you could argue that he is ment to love nature, and that by haveing a girlfreind he is forsaking his vows and shouldn't be allowed to do it.
However, I think the player was just taking it a bit far

Another thing:
I want to play my druid like, don't interfere with normal nature things (eat or be eaten). But when an undead is going through the forrest i want to stop him off course. For other cases like two landlords having a fight he doesn't care, at least until one of those tries to inflict harm to the people he loves or abuses the nature in a way that he doesn't like. (like settings forrests on fire to create a better defence for his castle  )

What other points should i watch over for so that i can become a better roleplayer ?

I play my druid with the mindset that human cities are a fuction of their own natural environment, and therefore don't particularly bother me, they are just another aspect of creatures living in their natural environments. Of course, if they don't replant the trees they use to build the town I'll have some issues.

I have a druid who views cities the way we view zoos or animal parks. "Oooh, look at the funny people! Maybe we druids can learn more about cityfolk by studying them in their natural habitat....a tavern."

As long as the Druid is sleeping au natural, so to speak, he shouldn't concern himself.

Perhaps the Druid could go around and act as an "Environmental Consultant" to the city's projects -- a bunch of Druids with Stone Shape & Wood Shape would be awfully useful to any construction project, but they could be a great threat to any construction if their not happy with how it will impact the environment.

There's absolutely nothing in the druid class that requires them to sleep in the woods besides possibly flavor, and that only if you like the xenophobic view. Sure, their HOME would likely be in the woods, but just consider that they view is the reverse of cityfolk; While away from home, they camp out in the city, seeing what natural comforts they can find/bring with them to do so. There's no reason a druid can't sleep in an inn, he's a priest of nature. Saying he has to sleep in the woods is like saying a cleric has to sleep in a temple.

A more pressing concern is where does a druid's animal companion sleep?

I figure most people in D&D are relatively accepting of wild animals when they are accompanied by a druid, but you can't keep a dire bear in a stable with horses, and I don't think most inns would be too keen on you bringing one into the room.

Druid: One room for me, and one for my bear, please.
Innkeep: There's no way I'll rent a room to a bear!
Druid: Why not?
Innkeep: Well, what about the smell?
Druid: Oh, I don't think he'll mind.

Of course if your animal companion is a dire ape, you're in luck since we all know where a 500lb gorilla sleeps...

Hehe, thx for the reply's. I'll keep those in mind....

Woodshape / Stoneshape to help a project in the city sounds nice because it's different then the most things i do as a druid.

When we entered the city we'd had to leave my bear behind with the city guards so no problem with that.

Here a basic background, you may not like it but i'm trying to make the best out of it:

Sylvani was a human found by elves and he was raised in the same elven village where Lea lived in. On the east side of the village there was a druidic camp. Sylvani got inspired by their way of living and on that moment he choose the path of a druid.
On a night he was walking in the moonlight through the forest when someone shot an arrow inside his right leg. Lea who was walking in the forest herself thought she’d saw an enemy but then she realized her mistake and helped Sylvani. Because of that accident Lea and Sylvani met and became friends. One day their village became attacked by a group of ironmaw plants and they had to flee the village in which they had lived their entire lives. So they traveled into the wide world. Now they are in search for adventure and to explore the wondrous things this world had to offer.

If any suggestions or things come to mind please don't hesitate to help :)

I hate leaving my companion with the guards or at the gate. I figure no guard would want to take care of a great big dire bat. Would they even know what to do? I figure in a D&D world in which unusual creatures abound, and are known to be in the service of people (druids and rangers with animal companions, wizards with familiars, etc.) there would be laws or rules about this.

If I were a lawmaker, I would rather the animal stay in the presence of the one who controls it rather than left behind outside, where unfortunate things can happen (I've seen DM's who make a druid leave his/her animal outside the city gate...and then, for some reason, a small child always taunts the animal or something and gets killed...).

Failing that, is there no druid grove nearby? Judging from the city generation charts, most places have at least a minor druidic presence, so my advice for travelling druids who need to leave there animals in a city is to finds a local druid and work something out. In fact, the city may actually have this as a law... they would likely have some relationship with the local druids.

That's why my animal companion is a dog. Everyone likes dogs. Even innkeepers like dogs. Also, I'm only 3rd level.

But no one should tell someone how to roleplay. Their character might be bossy and stupid and say stuff about druids, but the player shouldn't tell another player how to play.

I think you better watch out...this other player's just thinking of an excuse to get you out of the picture while he/she makes the moves on your lover.

What you have to do is put your dire skunk animal companion in the room that your lover is supposed to be in. The other player will sneak in, try to get romantic, and get a face-full of hot skunk stink!

LOL, well i can almost ensure you that is not the question ;)

She'd rather go out sleeping with me in the forest then stay there and also this other player wouldn't do such a thing. (i hope :behold: )

I would think the dogs and horses on the druids list are wild. It doesn't make such sense that the ritual would summon a domesticated animal.
In that case I don't think to many people are fond of feral dogs. They only think of the druid as a friend not everyone else. The rite doesn't make them domesticated. The tricks they learn help them be around things they normally wouldn't want to be, but they are still animals ruled by instinct.
A druid's companion has only animal intelligence, so I really doubt cities and towns open their doors to them. It wouldn't be very hard to picture a wolf or wild dog mauling some little kid the got just a little to close. Maybe you taught it 'down' and maybe you took levels in handle animal so you make sure to make the roll, but on the other hand maybe you don't notice in time.
Also a wild animal isn't going to like being in the city even if you can get it in there. Does seem much like a friend when you force it to be unhappy because you want a warm bed to sleep on.

"I am a druid. My place is to perserve nature. Humans sleep in buildings, naturally. So, yup, I'm sleeping in nature. My nature. High quality bedding."

Sorry, I had to. On topic: I'd say if he gets the girl to become a druid, then there would be no conflict at all. But honestly, saying a druid can't sleep anywhere but in the wild is like saying a cleric can't sleep anywhere but the church. It's just not plausible.
