Druid Taking a PrC [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-13-07, 04:26 AM Hi all, I'm seeking advice on a build for a character I am running at the moment: LN Male Wild-elf Druid 4.

The fluff behind my character is his particular druid tribe focuses on close use of animal allies (wolves in particular) and fighting alongside them when i first saw this class I thought it suited my character perfectly but I didn't want to take too huge a dip into it that my spellcasting would suffer to greatly.

What it is I am after is a little advice on how to stagger my levels. I am planning on taking the beast heart adept PrC from dungeonscape (An excerpt detailing the PrC can be found here:

I have decided on several options for taking the prestige class as follows but I only wish to take 5 levels of the class in any case:

1. Wait till a higher level before dipping into the PrC for 5 levels
2. Take it once I reach level 6 and take it for 5 levels straight
3. Take it at level 6 an then take a level of druid then another level of beast heart adept and so on

So what I would like to hear is some constructive Ideas/Critisim on this and any other alternative ideas anyone may have.

Also if this isn't the correct place to be posting about this could someone please tell me where to do so :)

08-13-07, 05:01 AM Beast heart adept is best taken ASAP, IMO. I believe the strength of the animal companions you get were made on the assumption that you enter it at 6th lvs, and were thus scaled accordingly. Thus, if you took the prc too late, the magical beasts you get might then be too weak to deal with the encounters you face.

But the problem is that if you only take a few lvs, then your magical beasts stop improving, and the whole cycle starts again.

However, I don't really recommend multiclassing druids, since their strengths are in their wildshape and spells, which few prcs boost. Beast heart adept might be more apt for a barb/ranger multiclass.

08-13-07, 06:53 AM So it's not really a PrC I should take then? I had been kind of thinking abotu that before as when looking at the progression table for druid I would miss out on most of the high level abilities/spells.

So the general idea would be that it would work for a while but then the magical beast companions would be too weak to help at higher levels?
