| sanzo the space worm01-19-07, 12:12 AM | I'm playing a lvl 1 Gnome druid and im wondering what spells I should take. Any suggestions? |
| sanzo the space worm01-19-07, 12:16 AM | I've also saved up $200 for books. Which books should I get? (I already have PHB, Races of Stone, and Complete divine) |
| Yokomohoyo01-19-07, 01:00 AM | About the books I would suggest spell compedium if you like spell casters, druids assasins and the sort... It has a huge selection of spells that dont appear in the PBH |
| IdleAltruism01-19-07, 01:07 AM | Well first level you aren't going to have a huge selection. Try and pick spells that will have a large effect on encounters, like entangle. Cure light is never a bad choice. As for books it really depends on what you like. |
| sanzo the space worm01-19-07, 01:38 AM | Druids and ninjas are my favorite classes... i like to have an assortment of weapons and an assortment of spells infront of me... so spell compedium and arms and equip guide? i also like complete Adventurer, warrior, and scoundrel.. which MM would you recommend for animal-monsters? |

MM 1 and 2. Complete Warrior. And get Salt Ray (or is it Ray of Salt?) as a damage-dealing spell for the Druid. |
| Sphyre01-19-07, 08:56 AM | I'm playing a lvl 1 Gnome druid and im wondering what spells I should take. Any suggestions? Take? Druids are Divine casters and don't 'take' spells. They have access to every druid spell they can cast, and simply prepare whatever they want at the beginning of the day. If you mean by "what should I prepare often" then that's a different question. It depends on your character and sources. Honestly, it's been too long since I last played a level 1 druid... I think  Obscuring Mist, and Shillelagh are favorites of mine from the PHB, and maybe Produce Flame. |
| SunTzuWarmaster01-19-07, 09:57 PM | 4 Spells? Entangle, Entangle, Cure Light Wounds, Cure Light Wounds. Summon Spontaneously. |
| Sergikins01-19-07, 11:03 PM | ray of salt? whats that? |
| Sphyre01-19-07, 11:39 PM | 4 Spells? Entangle, Entangle, Cure Light Wounds, Cure Light Wounds. Summon Spontaneously. I have to agree with entangle. Today in the game I DMed, the level 10 Druid cast entangle on a level 14 person that was trying to get away. Although the target made it's save, it still impeded the movement. This is a great spell, and I certainly overlooked it :) |
| hmmmm01-20-07, 10:51 AM | Prepare whatever you think you're going to need that day. |
| Otto the Bugbear01-20-07, 03:23 PM | Lesser Vigor instead of Cure Light Wounds Entangle is golden. |
| DreadArchon01-20-07, 04:51 PM | I like the Player's Handbook II Druid variant. It's not as powerful, but I find it more fun. As such, you might look into the PHII. |
| draco111901-21-07, 03:52 AM | ray of salt? whats that? Saltray. It's a 2nd lvl spell in Spell Compendium. |
| loneknife01-29-07, 06:59 PM | druid spells eh? First sources I love: spell compendium (double your druid spells), monster manual (or laptop with srd, if you are going to summon, you have to have the stats of the monsters!), complete arcane(sudden feats), complete warrior(lots of awesome fighting feats, as well as some interesting druid PRCs) Also buying used books can greatly increase the number of books you can buy. (Amazon, Ebay and Half are just a few places you can get discounts if memory serves) Second how do you envision your druid? What combination of: direct damage(melee), ranged damage(spells, ranged weapon) and spells(summon, buff, disable enemies) appeals to you? Third, what feats/race/animal companion do you have? these things can make a Huge difference in your spell selection. Spells I like: PHB: level 1: Entangle is awesome story: party tracks down Little Bad Evil Guy(+4 cr but not as bad as the persons he works for) to city of the dead to ambush him. we are ambushed in the middle of the night by the LBEG who is invisible, his animal companion and 12 or so undead minions. surprise round: LBEG entangles us and very loudly tells us how stupid we are to try to oppose his organization(he is right as we have been flatened before). round 1: warlock teleports out with melee types. mage and druid(me) stay in the safety of the entangle spell and cast spells(taking the small spell failure chance). i use faiery fire on LBEG(located with an excellent listen check and probably helped by his loudness). LBEG uses fog cloud round 2: i use another entangle centered on the fog cloud. warlock and melee chars teleport to find and surround LBEG and tear him apart. convieniently his entangle spell kept our casters safe from his minions, my entangle kept our Melee types safe from the minions as well. You can also use this spell with ranged weapons and/ or summon swarm. Cure light is a must Obscuring Mist is good, whenever you are out gunned, you can prevent ranged attacks, Attacks of opportunity, sneak attacks, and slow down your enemies. against somehing big, it can literally blind them and prevent them from using their reach. Mixed with ghost sound can also give some great effects. Farie fire is great to have a few scrolls of. level 2: barkskin- where else do you get natural armor bonus? bear's, bull's, cat's, owl's - buff everyone's stats +4 and suddenly they love you. also allows crafting stat enhancing items. resist energy spider climb - stay just out of reach of those melee weapons. summon swarm - when they stop screaming, it's done. tree shape - you should be able to do some good things with this, say plant a tree next to the enemy command tent, hope they don't need fire wood. warp wood: wizard - "Beware the enemy archers they'll stick you full of arrows before you can say ... ". druid - "warp wood?" rogue - "Blasted wood door won't unlock". druid - "Funny, worked for me". paladin - "Ack, the enemy ship is gaining on us"!! druid - "Ships need rudders, and unless i'm mistaken that ship doesn't have one". summon II level 3: call lightning- good candidate for sudden mazimize, it also lasts a while, so it prevents you from running out of spells, do try to ensure a stromy area though. poison - also good for sudden max. 20 con damage anyone? what is a 5th level wizard's fort save any way? I don't think it's good enough. spike growth - this is great for low level croud control. rogue "what if the orcs charge or follow us down the hall"? druid "they won't do it twice". stone shape - so many things i can't count. upon capturing an npc, rogue "i think we should just kill him and be done with it." paladin - "We can't do that, we'll have to tie him up". Druid "that will be difficult, as i just sank his arms into this 4 ton boulder up to his shoulders, he shouldn't give us any trouble, and when we need to transport him, we can just take 50 lbs of the boulder or so for his hand cuffs." you can also make doors/stairs/ladders and often times remove them as well. summon III we'll stop here since you'll be low level for a while. Spell Compendium seriously there are so many i'm getting sick of writing. Feats I like: augment summoning sudden maximize(not just for damaging spells, also for when summoning multiple creatures) scribe scroll(so you have the spells you don't always need ready like farie fire and lesser restoration) craft wonderous item - how many body slots can you fill? craft wand - sure glad i memorized cure light wounds 50 times. natural spell ... wow ... i didn't know chipmunks could call down fire on their enemies? also search the CO boards for druids you will find more than enough info to keep you busy for a lifetime. ps how do i get a spoiler block so i can hid my stories for people how fear long posts? |
| BISHOP3rd02-02-07, 11:05 PM | Guidance Zero level spell This spell imbues the subject with a touch of divine guidance. The creature gets a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. It must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies. This spell wont only help you out , but the party out as well. You'll find Guidance on page 211 of your phb. |
