Basically, those HD are 'bonus' HD as opposed to 'advancement' HD, so no, your animal companion does not get any bigger. |
| JasonOrlandoHawk02-09-07, 10:32 AM | Depends on the animal. If you look in the MM, each animal has a section called "Advancement." This notes any special effects that an increase in Hit Dice has on the creature's size. I'll use the classic example of the Druid's Animal Companion, the Wolf: Wolf Medium Animal HD: 2d8+4 (skipping a bunch of stuff in the middle) Advancement: 3 HD (Medium), 4-6 HD (Large) Basically, when the wolf moves up to 4 HD, it becomes a large creature. No other size increases are noted, so it would be by DM permission only for the Wolf to grow again. This is why, at epic levels, the advancement rules for a Tyrannosaurus are fun! |
